MoAB BIKE RENTAL FAQS
Booking well in advance is strongly advised, especially during peak seasons from March to June and September to November. To avoid disappointment, secure your bike and accommodation several weeks ahead of time.
Typically, you can pick up your bike anytime after 8 a.m. and must return it by 5 p.m. In the winter, the timings are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have an early morning shuttle, consider renting the bike a day earlier or ask the bike shop if you can pick up the bike the evening before. This is on a per booking basis.
Yes, the primary person on the reservation must show a valid ID and credit card. All participants must be there for a short safety briefing and equipment orientation.
Allocate at least 30 minutes for the rental process. If you require trail recommendations, it may take longer. Make sure to prepare in advance by reviewing trail information and bringing appropriate gear.
Moab mountain bike rental shops offer 4 categories of mountain bikes to suit different needs and skill levels:
1. High-End Premium Bikes
- These are top-of-the-line bikes designed for optimal performance on all Moab trails. They come with carbon fiber frames and high-end components like dropper seat posts, providing an edge over other riders. Suitable for everyone from beginners to professional cyclists.
2. Mid-Range Bikes
- These bikes also feature carbon fiber frames but come with mid-level components. They offer a great balance of performance and value, making them a popular choice for riders of all skill levels. Mid-range rentals also offer a dropper seat post.
3. Standard Full Suspension Rentals
- These are alloy (aluminum) bikes equipped with standard parts. They are ideal for beginner to intermediate riders looking for a reliable and cost-effective option for their Moab adventure. Standard rentals may or may not include a dropper seat post based on the bike shop that you rent from and the availablity.
4. Hardtail Mountain Bikes
- These bikes are equipped with front suspension only, offering a more traditional mountain biking experience. Similar to our standard rentals, they come with standard parts and are made of alloy (aluminum). These bikes are well-suited for beginner to intermediate riders who prefer a hardtail setup for their Moab adventure.
Truck bed carriers are the best option, you can rent a tailgate pad and throw up to 4 bikes on the back of the truck. Two inch hitch receivers are the most compatible to rent bike racks in Moab. The difference between a 29-inch and a 27.5-inch mountain bike primarily lies in the wheel size, which subsequently affects the bike’s performance characteristics. Here’s a breakdown:
29-inch Mountain Bikes
- Wheel Size: Larger 29-inch wheels
- Rolling Efficiency: Better at rolling over obstacles due to the larger wheel diameter
- Momentum: Once up to speed, they hold momentum well
- Stability: Generally more stable at high speeds
- Terrain: Often preferred for cross-country and all-mountain riding
- Drawbacks: May be less agile and slightly heavier, can be more challenging for shorter riders
27.5-inch Mountain Bikes
- Wheel Size: Smaller 27.5-inch wheels
- Agility: Generally more agile and easier to maneuver
- Acceleration: Quicker to accelerate and decelerate
- Handling: Often easier to handle in tight, technical terrain
- Terrain: Commonly used for downhill, enduro, and technical trail riding
- Drawbacks: May require more effort to roll over obstacles, may lose momentum more quickly
Both wheel sizes have their pros and cons, and the best choice depends on your riding style, the type of terrain you’ll be tackling, and personal preference.
Both bike wheel sizes are available to rent from most bike rental shops in Moab.
