Heavenly Ski Rentals - What to Know

Heavenly Mountain Resort straddles the California and Nevada border on the south end of Lake Tahoe. It is typically a 3 hour drive from San Francisco and an hour from Reno. With over 4800 skiable acres and 360 average inches of powder annually, Heavenly is one of the largest ski resorts in the western United States. Heavenly Resort's scenery is second to none, with skiers enjoying the iconic views of snowclad mountains framing the deep blue lake.

The town of South Lake Tahoe features a wide variety of coffee shops, restaurants, craft breweries and (Nevada side) casinos. Off-piste activities include many miles of snowshoe trails in the nearby Tahoe National Forest, ice skating at the Heavenly village rink, and much more.

Heavenly Ski Rental Shops

Heavenly has 4 different base areas from which to access the mountain. Heavenly North includes beginner-friendly Boulder Lodge and the local's choice Stagecoach Lodge - both off of Tramway Drive on the Nevada side at the top of Kingsbury Grade (Nevada Route 207). On the California side, Heavenly Village Gondola is the best for walking to and from the slopes and California Base Lodge has the best parking options.

You'll find a variety of shops offering Heavenly ski rentals in all four base areas of Heavenly resort. Or, you can sit back as your gear is delivered right to your accommodation with Black Tie Ski Delivery South Tahoe or Ski Butlers.

Heavenly North has two base areas - the beginner-friendly Boulder Lodge and the local’s choice Stagecoach Lodge - both are located on the Nevada side of Heavenly at the top of Kingsbury Grade (Nevada Route 207).  In Heavenly North, we recommend renting skis at Heavenly Sports Boulder Lodge and  Heavenly Sports Stagecoach Lodge.

Heavenly Village Gondola base area is located on the California side in South Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Village near many restaurants and hotels, and is best for walking to and from the slopes. For ski rentals here, consider Heavenly Sports Marriott.

California Base Lodge is also on the California side, and is at the base of the mountain on the outskirts of town, and has the best parking options. Winter Wonderland Ski Shop is a customer favorite for ski rentals in this area.

Top Tips for Renting Skis in Heavenly

  1. Compare Rental Shop Locations: TripOutside features the best Heavenly ski shops in all 4 base areas of Heavenly.  These base areas may be many miles apart, so it’s important to familiarize yourself with the rental shop locations and choose the most convenient option based on your Heavenly lodging, planned activities and trail preferences.  Use the map on TripOutside to easily compare locations of rental shops.
  2. Book in Advance: For the best gear availability and prices at Heavenly, consider booking your ski rentals online in advance of your trip. This ensures availability and can save you a ton of time on arrival.
  3. Know Your Skill Level: Communicate your skill level and preferences at the time of booking. The shop will use this information to recommend the right type and size of ski, bindings, poles and boots to match your abilities and riding style.
  4. Arrive Early or Choose Early Pickup: Arriving early in the morning when rental shops open can help you avoid long lines and get on the slopes faster. This is especially important during peak seasons.  Even better: most Heavenly shops allow you to pick up your gear the night before as early as 3pm.  Choose this option to make the most of your ski days!
