Top Tips for Renting Skis in Truckee

  • Book in Advance: To avoid long lines and guarantee the availability of your preferred ski gear, it’s best to reserve your ski rentals online before your trip. This is particularly important during peak seasons (weekends, holidays, and winter break).
  • Choose a Convenient Shop Location: Truckee has several rental shops located in downtown, which is a great option if you’re staying in town or planning to ski multiple resorts. For visitors heading to Northstar or Sugar Bowl, consider renting at shops closer to the resort base areas for easy pickup and drop-off.
  • Communicate Your Skill Level: Make sure to communicate your skill level when booking your rentals. Whether you're a beginner or an expert skier, the rental shop will help match you with the right type and size of skis to fit your ability and the type of terrain you plan to ski.
  • Arrive Early or Opt for Early Pickup: Arriving early at the rental shop helps you avoid the crowds and get on the slopes faster. Many shops in Truckee allow you to pick up your gear the day before, usually after 3 p.m., which can give you a head start for your ski day.
