Puerto Rico - Things to Do & Outdoor Activities
Puerto Rico is a Caribbean island and has been a territory of the US since 1898. From the world’s brightest bioluminescent bays to the El Yunque tropical rainforest, Puerto Rico is all about its tropical beaches, waterfalls, mountains, and the many outdoor activities that it has to offer. Kayaking, surfing, snorkeling, SUP, diving, and hiking the beautiful rainforest are some of the many outdoor activities that attract adventurers to Puerto Rico. Bioluminescent kayaking tours in Puerto Rico are offered in Fajardo at Laguna Grande, in the southwest at La Parguera, and Mosquito Bay in Vieques.

How to Get to Puerto Rico
By Flight: The island’s international gateway is the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan (SJU). Also, the regional airports at Aguadilla (on the northwestern coast), Ponce (on the southern coast), and Mayaguez (on the western coast) also have direct flights from the US mainland.
By Water: Puerto Rico's ferry services connect with the US Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic. These are also one of the popular ways to get into Puerto Rico.
Best Time to Visit Puerto Rico
The best time to visit Puerto Rico is from mid-April to June, just after the peak tourist season that goes from December to April and just before the rainy summer. You'll get less crowded beaches, and the weather is still perfect for outdoor adventures. This period also offers great conditions in the bio bays before the heavier rains start in late summer.
What to Expect - Cruiser Biking
Cruiser bikes, or path bikes, are the most commonly used bikes in cities or vacation destinations as they allow you to explore an area and have fun doing it. Cruisers are easy to ride, have a relaxed geometry, and can come in a variety of sizes and styles (see below).
If you’re planning on riding a paved path or exploring a city but don’t care about how fast you do it, these are the bikes for you.
Types of Cruiser Bikes
Here are a few different types of bikes that fall under the cruiser bike category:
Beach Cruisers Rentals - Typically single speed bikes with reverse pedaling to brake. These are super fun, low-maintenance bikes made for flat area biking.
City Bike Rentals: Similar to beach cruisers but typically have gears and hand lever brakes instead of pedal brakes.
Hybrid Bike Rentals: Hybrid bikes are essentially city bikes but have a little bit of suspension on the front fork and slightly fatter tires that allow you to ride on slightly rougher surfaces like gravel. The term hybrid refers to the bike being a hybrid between a city/road bike and a mountain bike as mountain bikes typically have suspension.
