Experience Waties Island for Sunset & at Night!

The Twilight tour launches shortly before sunset as you head out towards Waties Island. Enjoy the spectacular sunset views as the glow reflects off the waters surrounding you while you paddle through the salt marshes to get there! The island is an undeveloped barrier island that is home to bald eagles, blue herons, marsh hens, osprey, ducks, and in the summer, you may get a glimpse of loggerhead sea turtles and bottlenose dolphins!

Once at Waties Island, you’ll beach your kayaks and enjoy watching the fiery sky slowly turn dark! Just after sunset at night our resident ghost crabs, which we call "cartoon crabs,” are known to come out in mass numbers. These busy little crabs scurry across the sand in a cartoon-like fashion and are hilarious to watch! Test out your crab catching skills against these fast little land runners or take a relaxing walk along the private beach.

Our kayak tour is specifically designed to be a family friendly, engaging, and fun memorable experience. Our kayak tour is also located in smooth, calm waters and is great for all experience levels!

You’ll meet at the Cherry Grove Boat Landing area! There is free parking available after 5:00 pm.

Ages & Requirements

Children must be at least 2 years old
Maximum paddler weight of 275 lbs (125 kg) for a single kayak
Maximum weight for a tandem kayak is 400 lbs (181 kg)
Guests must be over 12 years old to be in a single kayak

FAQs

What if I’ve never kayaked before?

That is no problem; in fact, the majority of our tours are with first time kayakers. Our tour guides have years of experience kayaking and will be with you all the way. The tour guides will deliberately go out of the way to make sure you are comfortable and getting the hang of it. Kayaking is easy to learn, but we caution you... it is very addictive!

What if I fall out of my kayak?

Falling out of a kayak is very rare; however, there is always a risk for it to happen. Your guide is well trained for such instances and will assist you. All of our tours are done in calm waters. If you are a weak/inexperienced swimmer or have a fear of the water we recommend you wear your flotation at all times while in the kayak.

Can I bring alcoholic beverages with me?

State Law prohibits the use of alcohol while operating any watercraft or vessel. In compliance with state law and the safety and comfort of all our guests we do not allow alcohol to be consumed during our tours. Your tour guide can point you in the right direction after the tour of some great local places for you to enjoy a celebratory drink with your friends or family!

Do I have to wear my PFD?

We recommend wearing your PFD; however, we do not require you to wear it during your tour. All of our tours are done in smooth calm waters and it is rare for a paddler to fall out of the kayak during our tours. You should consider your physical abilities and your skill level for swimming when deciding whether or not you wear your PFD. **State law requires children under 12yrs of age to wear their PFD (fully zipped/buckled) at all times while in the kayak.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations are subject to:
- Cancellation policy applies individually to each person within a group.
- Penalties due to cancellations will be charged to credit card on file.
- All cancellations are subject to a minimum 5% processing fee.
- It is our policy to provide a full refund minus* a 5% processing fee for any cancellation if we are able to refill your cancelled spots.

Greater than 96 hours from tour start time (4 Days):
- Should you have to cancel for any reason a 96 hour (4 day) notice is required.
- Cancellations received greater than 96 hours prior to launch will receive a full refund minus a 5% processing fee.

Less than 96 hours from tour start time (4 Days):
- Any cancellation less than a 96 hour notice will be charged 50% of the total booking cost.

No Shows / Same day cancellations:
- Cancellations received the same day as the tour OR reservations resulting in a no show will be charged the full balance of tour reserved.

Additional cancellation policies for special tours. Please read carefully
- Cancellations for any private or customized tour will not receive a refund after booking.

Please note, our commitment to your reservation will likely cause us to turn away other guest; therefore, our cancellation policy is firm.

Inclement Weather Cancellations:

All weather cancellations are at the discretion of J & L Kayaking
If J & L Kayaking cancels the tour due to inclement weather a full refund will be issued to the card on file.
If inclement weather should prevent your tour from going we will do our best to reschedule you for another day.
