Description

Fajardo Bio Bay Kayak Tour

Join a bio bay kayaking tour with PURE ADVENTURE, the only company that features a Marine Biologist as your field guide. We will explain all the processes involved and the unique conditions required for this supernatural phenomena to occur. Your Marine Biologist will also explain how this delicate ecosystem maintains a pure balance and what must be done to preserve and protect the Bio Bay “Laguna Grande”…a very special place on Planet Earth!

There are only four bioluminescent bays (bio bays) and one lagoon in existence on Earth. Very few people, even Puerto Ricans, are aware of our little known, bioluminescent lagoon. Pure Adventure provides a unique opportunity to visit and actually kayak in the “Bio-Lagoon” known as “Laguna Grande”. This lagoon is the best place to appreciate this phenomenon, being a closed environment, allowing the microorganisms to flourish in bigger concentrations! This glowing effect can be appreciated at any given night.

Considerations

The Bio Bay Adventure tour is one of Puerto Rico’s most popular tours.  There are four things that our guests need to take in consideration:

  1. In order to best appreciate the bioluminescent phenomena our tours run at sunset and early evening and it can get quite dark in the mangrove canal. So, if you are afraid of darkness, a first time kayaker, or have small kids we strongly suggest taking the earlier, sunset trip. This way you can see where you are going, get use to the environment and sharpen your kayaking skills.
  2. Due to the immense popularity the Bio Bay tour, at times can get crowded. It’s not uncommon to meet up with other tour groups waiting to access the canal leading to the lagoon. There can be bumping other kayaks along the way. When crowded conditions warrant, Pure Adventure will provide extra guides for your safety.
  3. Please keep in mind that this tour takes place in a natural environment and that the bioluminescent phenomenon, although rare, can be seen year round. The intensity of brightness is unpredictable and can vary. Most important – the glow is always there! ENJOY THE SHOW!
  4. For safety reasons, we do not allow children under 6 years old and pregnant women to participate on any of the kayaking excursions.  Pregnant women, kids under 6 years old or those who have epilepsy, back problems, heart conditions, dizziness, recent surgery or any other condition that may put life in risk are not allowed to participate in this PURE ADVENTURE tour. The maximum weight per person is 220 pounds. Please help us make this a pleasant experience for all. Prepare for a Pure Adventure!!!

SPECIAL NOTE:

Dear guest, keep in mind that the bioluminescence is very unpredictable and is a natural phenomenon that is influenced by several factors, which cannot be controlled, nor predicted. For this reason, it's very difficult to say when the water glows more. The glowing effect can vary from very visible to minimal or none without previous notice. Pure Adventure cannot be held responsible in the eventuality that the bay doesn't light up. On certain nights guides may use a tarp to enhance the visibility of the bioluminescence.

With or without the glow this tour is awesome! We guarantee that you and your family will have a great time. Our guides are marine biologists and because of this, they have the knowledge and experience to provide a fun and educational tour adding more value to this top-night attraction.

GUEST VISITING VIEQUES & CULEBRA ISLANDS:

As local tourists, we know that is a must to visit our beautiful Spanish Virgin Islands off the East Coast, Vieques & Culebra. However, we strongly suggest that our clients plan their visit to Vieques & Culebra on a different day from their reservation to the Bio Bay excursion. The Ferry service might not be on time for your trip back or might be too crowded and Pure Adventure will not provide any refunds or reschedule your tour. We will not make any exceptions if the guest does not arrive on time for the excursion.

Keep in mind we offer Vieques and Culebra Snorkel or Dive tours and take you on our personal boat. This is a safe way to visit the islands and to stay away from the hassle that is the ferry.

CRUISE SHIP PASSENGERS:

We rarely do pick up from the cruise ships because of the strict departure and arrival times. Please keep in mind that if for any reason the tour or the transportation is held back or late we will not be held responsible if your cruise leaves. The drive from the cruise port to the meeting site is about 1 hour and 30 minutes but since we need to pick up more people from other locations we estimate a 2-hour drive and maybe a little more depending on the traffic.
