Stop at La Coca Falls
Your first stop is an 85-foot waterfall cascading over massive rock formations. Enjoy photo ops, rainforest sounds, and the misty breeze from this dramatic natural landmark.
Climb Yokahú Observation Tower
Head up this historic stone tower for sweeping panoramic views of the rainforest canopy, distant mountains, and coastline. This is one of the best viewpoints in El Yunque.
Visit the Mameyes River
Relax at a tranquil river surrounded by lush vegetation. You’ll have time to enjoy the cool mountain water, take photos, or simply absorb the peaceful rainforest atmosphere.
Travel to Luquillo Beach & Kiosks (Lunch + Beach Time)
Next, you’ll head to the iconic Luquillo Beach area, famous for its calm turquoise water and more than 60 food kiosks. Here you can:
- Swim and relax on the soft golden sand

Night Kayaking in the Bioluminescent Bay
Paddle through narrow mangrove channels into Laguna Grande, one of the brightest bioluminescent bays on Earth. With every movement of your paddle or hand, the water glows electric blue—an otherworldly phenomenon caused by microscopic organisms called dinoflagellates. This peaceful nighttime experience is the highlight of the tour and a must-see natural wonder.

FAQs
Can you always see the bioluminescence?
The bioluminescence is always there but it depends on the intensity and congregation of the plankton if the glow is bright or not. Taking a tour at the high times to see it, will make it more likely to see the glow but it varies day to day and is not guaranteed to be bright.
When is the best time to see the bioluminescence?
The bioluminescent intensity depends on weather conditions such as rain, tide, moon phase, sunlight and many other natural factors out of our control. Ideally, the best time to visit is around the new moon and during the dry months, December to March with a midsummer dry season June to July.
Is there storage available?
In case you want to leave any article, you can leave it at the registration table. Anything you bring on the water has the potential to get wet, damaged, or lost.
Do you still take out trips if it is raining?
If it is a heavy rain we may offer you the option of rescheduling or canceling without being charged. If there is lightning close by we will cancel the trip but you should always assume the trip is going out and show up for your trip unless we have said otherwise. The rain and/or lightning may be moving away quickly and may only make for a short delay in our departure time even if it looks bad at the moment.
Do I need to know how to swim?
Participants must be able to swim on their own in the rare case of capsizing. The tour does not have any lifeguards.
Can I walk barefoot on the beach?
For safety reasons, please do not walk barefoot on the beach.
Are there any restrictions regarding alcohol or drugs?
Anyone visibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be allowed to participate and will still be charged.
What type of kayaks are used?
The tour uses two-person double kayaks for a shared paddling experience. Groups with an odd number of participants will pair up with someone from another group to accommodate the uneven numbers.
What affects the bioluminescent intensity?
The bioluminescent intensity depends on weather conditions such as rain, tide, moon phase, sunlight and many other natural factors that are not in our control.
Where can I learn more about bioluminescence?
Check out our blog describing bioluminescence more in depth at Bioluminescence Kayaking!
How hard is it to kayak in the Bio Bay?
This is a beginner friendly kayaking spot! The lagoon and mangrove tunnels are very calm and a great place to try kayaking for the first time.
