Description

La Parguera Bioluminescent Bay Boat, Kayak, & Swim Tour!

Experience the thrill of kayaking and swimming through glowing blue waters in the darkness of night! This is one of three bays with the bioluminescence and the only one you can swim in! The illuminated waters are caused by a specific type of algae that, when disturbed, causes a chemical reaction in their body that produces light energy!
You will first set sail aboard a vessel towing the kayaks to the perfect starting point. Once in the lagoon, you’ll enter the calm waters in your kayak where you’ll be surrounded by the illuminated waters. You can choose to stay in the kayak or experience it up close by jumping off the kayak and swimming around in what seems like a sea of stars! You’ll conclude your adventure with a serene sail back to the dock, carrying the memory of the glowing waters with you.
Our journey takes us to a protected lagoon area, surrounded by mangroves and outer reefs. This unique ecosystem is the perfect setting for experiencing bioluminescence, offering flat seas, no currents, and a light breeze.

FAQs

Is parking available at your location?

The best place to park is across the street from Hotel Nautilus.

How long do we swim for?

You'll have about 60-75 minutes to swim and kayak in the bay. After departing from the dock, it's about a 20 minute boat ride into the bay. After a safety briefing, you'll be able to swim and enjoy the bay during the sunset.

How do we get back on the boat after kayaking and swimming?

Participants use a boat ladder to get back on board.

Is bioluminescence always visible?

The bioluminescent intensity depends on weather conditions such as rain, tide, moon phase, sunlight and many other natural factors out of our control. We do not photoshop and take nature as it is.

When is the best time to see the bioluminescence?

The bioluminescent intensity depends on weather conditions such as rain, tide, moon phase, sunlight and many other natural factors out of our control. Ideally, the best time to visit is around the new moon and during the dry months, December to March with a midsummer dry season June to July.

Where can I learn more about bioluminescence?

How hard is it to kayak in the Bio Bay?

This is a beginner friendly kayaking spot! The lagoon and mangrove tunnels are very calm and a great place to try kayaking for the first time.
