Raft the Animas River - 3/4 Day Rafting Trip with Lunch

Create amazing memories while adventuring down the Animas River! The Animas River 3/4 day rafting trip offers an exhilarating adventure through the scenic beauty of southwestern Colorado. Starting in the historic town of Durango, you'll see historical Old West landmarks and hear stories about the early days of Durango, all while experiencing fun and exciting whitewater that's ideal for both beginners and seasoned rafters.
The journey typically features a mix of calm waters and exciting Class II and III rapids, such as Smelter Rapid and the famous whitewater park, which provide plenty of thrills without being too overwhelming. Along the way, we'll pull over for a riverside snack and a chance to swim, so long as weather and river flows are appropriate for swimming. You'll enjoy stunning views of the San Juan Mountains, and lush forests, and possibly spot local wildlife in the natural habitat. With professional guides leading the way, you can expect a fun and memorable experience on the water.

Duration of Adventure

6 hours in total, with about 4-4.5 hours on the water (depending on river conditions).

What to Bring / Wear

  • Sturdy shoes - All guests must wear shoes that strap to their feet such as old tennis shoes, Chacos, or Tevas. Flip-flops and slip-on shoes are not permitted.  If you don’t have the right shoes, river booties can be rented from our location for your convenience.
  • Quick-dry clothing - You will be getting wet so wear clothing that dries fast such as swimsuits or workout clothing. Avoid cotton and denim.  Cheap sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen are encouraged.
  • Change of clothes and towel for after your trip
  • Sunscreen and water are highly encouraged
  • You may bring Go-Pros or other waterproof devices. 
  • Avoid bringing your phone, electronic key fobs, wallets, or anything else that cannot get wet, lost, or broken on the raft.

FAQ

What's the difference between the 3/4 day rafting trip, the half-day trip and the shorter Splash & Dash trip?
All rafting trips start at the same location, however, the 4.5-hour half-day rafting trip continues further downstream than the Splash & Dash, and the 3/4 day continues even further downstream and includes lunch. Also, we pull over for a riverside snack and a chance to swim on the half-day trip and 3/4 day trip, but not on the Splash & Dash. Swimming is depending on weather and river flows.
Are parking and restrooms available at your headquarters?
Parking is available on-site, as well as restrooms & changing areas.
What does trip insurance include?
By adding the trip insurance option, your whole group can get trip protection that allows you to cancel any time 12 hours BEFORE your trip launch date and get a full refund in the form of a non-expiring gift card. If canceled within 12 hours of your launch date no refund or gift card will be given.
Where do we leave our belongings when we're on the river?
Our rafts have NO storage; please leave any large items in your hotel room or car. Small items (such as wallets, keys, and phones) can be placed in a complimentary locker.
I have my own life jacket. Can I wear it on the trip?
Sorry, no personal PFDs are allowed due to permitting and insurance regulations.
What kind of wildlife might we see?
The lower Animas River is home to a variety of notable wildlife. Commonly seen animals include bald eagles, ospreys, great blue herons, mule deer, beavers, and river otters. The river is also inhabited by brown trout, rainbow trout, and cutthroat trout. 
Do you raft when it's raining?
We go rafting in all weather, rain or shine.  If the weather looks rainy, bring a rain jacket.  We will have fun no matter what the weather does.  We also rent out splash gear in case you forgot your rain jacket at home.

Cancellation Policy

If the need arises to cancel after your reservation, we require a 72-hour notice on all other adventures to get a full refund. Cancellations within 72 hours are not eligible for a refund.
