Description

Overnight Camping & Hiking Gear Rental for Zion National Park

Not everyone travels with a full pack of outdoor gear, and you shouldn't have to. Whether you're squeezing a surprise camping night into your Zion trip, heading out for a long day hike and missing a key piece of kit, or traveling light and want to avoid checking a bag full of bulky equipment, renting what you need in Springdale is the most practical way to make it happen.

The rental selection here covers the full range of what you'd need for a day hike or overnight in the Zion area. On the shelter and sleep side, two-person and four-person tents are available, along with summer and winter sleeping bags rated for different temperature ranges, heavyweight liners for adding warmth, and sleeping pads. For those heading deeper into the backcountry, 65L backpacking packs keep everything organized and comfortable on the trail. Day hikers and peak-baggers will find trekking poles useful on Zion's steep, rocky terrain, and in winter months, snowshoes and microspikes make otherwise inaccessible trails manageable and safe. Families with young children can rent a baby carrier for keeping little ones along for the adventure. And for those doing multi-day trips where cooking in camp matters, backpacking stoves round out the inventory.

Zion's trail network ranges from easy canyon-floor strolls to strenuous backcountry routes. Whether you're day hiking the West Rim, camping at a backcountry site on the Hop Valley Trail, or doing a winter hike on a snow-dusted mesa, having the right gear makes the difference between a comfortable adventure and an uncomfortable one.

FAQs

Do I need a permit to camp in Zion National Park?

Yes—overnight camping in the Zion Wilderness requires a backcountry permit, obtained through Recreation.gov or the Zion Canyon Visitor Center Wilderness Desk. Frontcountry campgrounds (Watchman and South) can be reserved directly through Recreation.gov. Staff can point you in the right direction at pickup.

What sleeping bag should I choose?

It depends on the time of year and where you're camping. The summer bag is rated for comfort above 45°F (7°C), suitable for warmer months in lower-elevation areas. The winter bag is rated for comfort above 30°F (-1°F), better suited for cooler months, higher elevations, or anyone who tends to sleep cold. Heavyweight liners can be added to either bag for extra warmth. If in doubt, staff will help you choose based on the forecast.

When do I need microspikes or snowshoes?

Zion's higher-elevation trails—including Angels Landing, the West Rim, and East Mesa—can accumulate significant snow and ice in winter and early spring. Microspikes provide traction on icy, compacted surfaces and are essential for safe travel on snow-packed trails. Snowshoes are suited for deeper, unbroken snow. Staff can advise on current trail conditions at pickup.
