There are sunsets, and then there are Elliott Bay sunsets. The West Seattle Sunset Sea Kayak Tour launches from Alki Kayak Tours in the early evening, heading out to search for wildlife at the mouth of the Duwamish River before making for Duwamish Head — where you will watch the sun melt into the Olympic Mountains and paint the entire Seattle skyline in gold. It is one of the most spectacular natural light shows in the Pacific Northwest, and you are right in the middle of it on the water.
Your guide leads the group through the wildlife-rich waters of Elliott Bay, sharing natural history and local knowledge while you keep watch for harbor seals, sea lions, bald eagles, and osprey. After a quick boat fitting and paddling tutorial, you will be comfortable and ready to set off — no experience required.
Tours run daily and are busiest on summer weekends. Reservations are required but last-minute spots can sometimes be accommodated.
