Do I need prior canyoneering or rappelling experience?

No. This course is designed for first-time canyoneers and those new to technical rope systems.

Will we go into a real technical canyon?

No. Instruction takes place at training venues outside of committing canyons so skills can be practiced safely, repeated, and coached.

What skills will I learn?

You’ll learn rappelling, anchor basics, knots, communication, canyon ratings, planning, and safe movement techniques used in introductory technical canyons.

What level of fitness is required?

You should have moderate to good fitness and be comfortable moving off-trail on uneven, rocky terrain.

Will this course prepare me to canyoneer on my own?

This course teaches foundational skills and best practices, but additional experience and mentorship are recommended before leading independent technical canyon trips.
