Why should I rent a bike on Vieques?

Renting a bike gives you complete independence on an island where transportation can be limited and taxis may be inconsistent. With a bike, you can explore beaches, visit snorkeling spots, ride into the wildlife refuge, and reach scenic viewpoints whenever you want—no schedules, no waiting, and no relying on anyone else. A bike is also cost-effective for longer stays, environmentally friendly, and far more convenient for accessing the narrow roads and sandy entrances that cars struggle with.

Is a bike safe to use for getting around Vieques?

Yes—bikes are commonly used around Vieques and are generally safe for transportation and exploration. Traffic is light compared to mainland Puerto Rico, roads are bike-friendly in most areas, and drivers are used to sharing the road with cyclists. Riding during daylight hours is safest, and using helmets, front/back lights, and basic caution ensures a smooth trip. Many of the best beaches and snorkeling spots are reached by quiet secondary roads or refuge paths where traffic is minimal.

For longer stays, biking becomes one of the easiest and safest ways to navigate the island, especially between Esperanza, the wildlife refuge, Mosquito Pier, and local restaurants and shops.
