Description

3 Hour Two Reef Sunset Snorkeling Cruise — Key West

The best snorkel of the day might just be the last one. This late-afternoon trip takes you to not one but two reef locations along Key West's world-famous barrier reef — the third-largest living coral reef system on Earth — before wrapping up with a gorgeous sunset as you cruise back through the historic harbor. It's the full Key West experience rolled into three hours.

You'll board the 54-foot Miss Valyn catamaran, a custom Gold Coast yacht that combines comfort and speed. The crew draws on over 20 years of daily snorkeling experience in the Florida Keys to choose the two best reef spots on the water that day. Expect to encounter everything from parrotfish and queen angelfish to spotted eagle rays, sea turtles, green moray eels, and tarpon. Your guides give full snorkeling instruction before entering the water, so no experience is needed.

Once back on deck, the bar opens with unlimited draft beer, champagne, and wine — and then the real reward arrives: a slow, golden-hour sail back toward Key West, the sky erupting in tropical color above the water. This is the trip for snorkelers who want more time in the water and a sunset to remember.

FAQs

Do I need to book in advance?

Booking in advance is strongly recommended, especially during peak season. Trips can and do sell out, and walk-up availability is not guaranteed.

Are there restrooms available?

Yes — the Miss Valyn has 2 above-deck modern marine restrooms.

Can I bring my own snorkel gear?

Yes, you're welcome to bring your own mask and snorkel. All gear is also included in your ticket.

Do I need to know how to swim?

It is strongly recommended that you are comfortable in open water. Flotation devices are available on board if needed.

How do we get in and out of the water?

Two large ladders are deployed from the back of the boat for easy water entry and exit. There are also spots to jump in if you prefer.

Can I snorkel with a beard or mustache?

You can, but facial hair can prevent a tight mask seal. Bring petroleum jelly or chapstick to coat your mustache for a better seal if needed.

Can I wear contacts while snorkeling?

Yes — contacts work great underwater. Glasses cannot be worn with a snorkel mask. Prescription masks are welcome but not available to rent.

What sunscreen should I use?

Reef-safe, non-nano mineral sunscreen only. Avoid products containing oxybenzone, octinoxate, or parabens. A long-sleeve rash guard is a great alternative.

What marine life can I see at Key West's reefs?

The Florida Keys Barrier Reef is home to over 500 marine species. Expect parrotfish, queen angelfish, sergeant majors, yellowtail snapper, hogfish, spotted trunkfish, moray eels, southern stingrays, spotted eagle rays, tarpon, grouper, blue tangs, and sea turtles. Every trip is different — the reef is a living, ever-changing ecosystem.

Where exactly do you go?

Your guides select the two best available reef sites on the day based on conditions. Common destinations include Sand Key and sections of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The sail out typically takes 20–40 minutes.

What boat is this trip on?

The Miss Valyn — a 54-foot custom Gold Coast catamaran built in 2020, accommodating up to 80 guests. It features 2 decks, 2 above-deck modern marine restrooms, a bar with unlimited draft beer and wine, top sun deck with seating, and a state-of-the-art sound system. Crew: 1 master captain and 2–3 crew members.

What time does the sunset happen during this cruise?

Key West sunsets vary by season — roughly 7:30–8:00pm in summer and 5:30–6:00pm in winter. The 5:00pm departure is timed to put guests on the water for the reef snorkel before cruising back during golden hour. Seasonal departure times may shift to align with sunset.
