Description

Teen/Youth Raft Guide Camp and River Safety Training

If you’re a teenager (ages 11-18) interested in learning the basics of guiding a raft and river rescue/safety techniques, this camp is for you! Most of your time will be spent on the river practicing whitewater river skills, but we’ll have an outdoor “classroom” component each morning, too. You’ll learn about:
  1. Rigging a raft
  2. Steering a raft with a paddle
  3. Using your crew to maneuver a raft
  4. Reading the river
  5. Lines for rapids
  6. Eddies
  7. Getting unstuck
  8. Flipping a raft back over
  9. Hand signals
  10. Rescue rope bags
  11. Self-rescue and rescuing others
  12. Safety and paddle talks
During this non-competitive five-day class, you’ll mostly be paddling on Class II sections of the upper Trinity River between Big Flat and Cedar Flat; but you’ll also spend a day on the Class III+ Pigeon Point section.
You’ll have the option to stay with your classmates at a USFS group campsite at Skunk Point with a parent or responsible adult. You’ll get picked up by your instructor each morning at 9:30am and arrive back at camp around 4pm. Your parents are welcome to book rafting trips with Six Rivers Rafting during the days, go hiking in the Trinity Alps, or just relax by the river.
