My child is only 2 years old — is this really safe?
Yes. The Toddler Surf Experience is designed with the very youngest participants in mind. Every child is fitted with a life vest and a wetsuit, and a dedicated CPR-certified instructor holds and supports your toddler on the board at all times. The waves at Kalama Park are extremely gentle and shallow — this isn't open-ocean surfing. The instructor has extensive experience working with babies and toddlers in the water and will move at whatever pace your child is comfortable with.
Does my child need to know how to swim?
No swimming ability is required whatsoever. Your child is fully supported by their instructor and wearing a life vest throughout the entire session.
Do I, as the parent, need to get in the water?
No — parents can watch from the shore or wade in the shallows if they prefer to be close. Your child will be in the dedicated hands of their instructor the full time.
Why is this lesson shorter than the others?
This format is capped at one hour to match a toddler's attention span and comfort level in the water.
Will my child actually ride a wave, or just sit on the board?
Most children do experience the sensation of gliding along on a wave — that's what makes this so special. The instructor chooses the right gentle waves and handles all the paddling, timing, and steering. Your toddler just gets to enjoy the ride. Some stand, some sit, and all of them usually have enormous grins.
What safety certifications do your guides have?
Your instructors are trained in surf instruction, ocean safety, CPR, and First Aid.
What happens if ocean or weather conditions aren't good for my scheduled lesson?
If conditions aren't suitable, your guides will work with you to reschedule for another date, or provide a refund per the cancellation policy below.
How does tandem surfing work for such young kids?
Your toddler rides tandem with a dedicated instructor who is CPR-certified, so your little one is guided through the entire experience and never on the board alone.
Cancellation Policy
No refund given for any circumstance within 24 hours prior to your lesson. Customers will also receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
