Description

Tieton River Rafting Trip – Washington’s Best Late-Season Whitewater

When summer fades and most of Washington’s free-flowing rivers run low, the Tieton River kicks into gear. Fed by scheduled dam releases, this September-only rafting trip delivers 14 miles of fast, continuous Class III rapids near Naches.
The Tieton River flows through a striking red rock canyon carved over millennia. Known for its consistent Class III rapids, the river features a series of splashy waves, tight turns, and fun chutes that keep paddlers engaged from start to finish. Thanks to controlled releases from Rimrock Dam, the water levels remain steady throughout September, offering warm, clear water ideal for an extended whitewater experience without the extreme cold of spring runoff. This combination of scenery and steady, challenging rapids makes the Tieton a standout choice for rafters seeking a thrilling late-season trip in Washington.
It’s a favorite among river guides for a reason—high water, splashy wave trains, and warm flows (by Washington standards) make the Tieton an ideal late-season adventure. Whether you're a first-timer looking for a thrill or a whitewater veteran squeezing in one last run, this trip is the perfect way to celebrate the end of rafting season.

FAQs

When is the Tieton River rafting season?

The Tieton River rafting season typically runs for about two weeks in September, starting the first weekend after Labor Day and ending the second weekend. This is when the river is released from Rimrock Dam, providing consistent flow and ideal conditions for whitewater rafting.

How challenging are the rapids on the Tieton River?

The Tieton features continuous Class III rapids, which means moderate difficulty with waves, strong currents, and some maneuvering required. It’s suitable for rafters aged 12 and up who have some physical fitness and a sense of adventure.

Is the water temperature cold?

Thanks to dam-controlled releases, the water is warmer in September than spring runoff rivers, but it’s still important to wear the wetsuit and splash gear provided to stay comfortable during your trip.

Do you offer Tieton River rafting discounts?

Yes, group discounts apply for parties of 7 to 12 or more. Please contact the office for details and to arrange group bookings.
