    FAQs

What level of fitness or biking experience is required for the North West Bike Tour?

The North West Bike Tour is rated moderate, suitable for riders who can comfortably bike for a couple of hours at a steady pace. The northern side of Vieques includes long open stretches, light hills, and occasional uneven surfaces near bunkers or coastal access points. You don’t need advanced cycling experience, but you should feel confident riding in warm, windy conditions and handling basic changes in terrain. The guide can adjust the speed and route based on the group’s comfort level.

What is the total distance we will be biking?

Because this tour can be customized to your experience level and interests, the total distance can vary. However, a typical route from Esperanza to Mosquito Pier (Rompeolas), with additional stops for bunkers and northern beaches along Road 200, usually comes out to about 16–20 miles (26–33 km). This distance includes multiple stops, photo breaks, and time to explore historic sites along the way.

What is special about the North West Bike Tour and the stops included?

The North West Bike Tour highlights the wide-open coastal scenery and historic remnants unique to the northern half of Vieques. Riders explore abandoned military bunkers hidden throughout the landscape, offering a glimpse into the island’s past and some great photo opportunities. One of the major highlights is Mosquito Pier (Rompeolas)—a massive breakwater stretching into the sea, known for incredible views, calm waters, and potential wildlife sightings. Riding along Road 200, you’ll also stop at small, quiet beaches and viewpoints that you might miss on your own. This tour stands out for its mix of open coastal riding, historic military sites, and the dramatic presence of the pier—giving you a very different perspective of Vieques compared to the island’s southern routes.
