Description
Technical Canyon Drysuit Rental Package – Cold Weather & Extended Zion Canyoneering
When the canyon gets serious, so does the gear. The Technical Canyon Drysuit Package is built for cold-weather canyoneering and extended canyon trips where prolonged exposure to cold water makes thermal protection a matter of safety, not just comfort. While a wetsuit keeps you tolerably warm through short swims, a drysuit keeps your base layers completely dry—meaning your insulation stays effective throughout a long day in a cold, shaded slot canyon, no matter how much time you spend in the water.
The package centers on a Gore-Tex drysuit paired with a coverall, canyon shoes, and neoprene socks. Gore-Tex construction provides a fully waterproof shell with the durability required for the abrasive, technical environment of Zion's slot canyons—scrambling over boulders, squeezing through narrows, and managing rope systems in tight corridors. This is the package for routes like Mystery Canyon, the Subway (Left Fork), Pine Creek in spring or late fall, or any route where you'll spend significant time immersed in cold water and need your layers to stay dry and functional throughout.
As with the Wetsuit Package, this rental is for experienced, self-sufficient parties with the skills and hardware to safely complete their chosen route. Permits, ropes, and technical hardware must be arranged independently.

FAQs
When should I choose a drysuit over a wetsuit for canyoneering?
The drysuit is the right choice for cold-weather canyoneering (fall, winter, and early spring), extended canyon trips, or any route with prolonged cold water exposure where keeping your base layers completely dry is critical to staying warm throughout the day. For shorter warm-weather routes with limited swimming, the Wetsuit Package is usually sufficient. Staff will help you make the right call based on your specific route and the day's conditions.
Which canyons is this gear appropriate for?
The Technical Canyon Drysuit Package is recommended for cold-weather or extended trips through any of Zion's technical canyons, including Mystery Canyon, the Subway (Left Fork), Pine Creek in spring or late fall, and other routes with significant cold-water exposure. Staff will advise on current conditions for your specific route at pickup.
Does the drysuit keep me warm?
The Gore-Tex drysuit blocks water completely, but does not provide insulation on its own. The warmth comes entirely from the base layers you wear underneath. Bring appropriate synthetic or wool thermals—heavier for cold conditions, lighter for mild shoulder-season routes—and protect them by keeping the drysuit sealed properly throughout the canyon.
What permits do I need for canyoneering in Zion?
A wilderness permit is required year-round for all technical canyons in Zion. Advance reservations for most canyons are available through Recreation.gov. The Subway (Left Fork) and Mystery Canyon use a separate lottery system. Permits must be picked up in person at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center Wilderness Desk the day before or morning of your trip. For more information, visit nps.gov/zion.
Can I rent ropes and rappelling hardware here?
No—ropes and technical canyoneering/climbing hardware are not available to rent due to the critical safety requirements involved. These items are available to purchase in-shop. Canyoneering harnesses are available to rent.
What about flash floods?
Flash flood risk is the primary safety hazard in all of Zion's slot canyons. Even in winter and early spring, storms anywhere in the canyon's watershed can send fast-moving water into narrow slots with little warning. Always check the weather thoroughly before entering any technical canyon and cancel your plans if there is any threat of precipitation. Your safety is your responsibility.
Can I pick up gear the evening before my rental?
Yes. If your sizes are available, pickup begins as early as 3:00 PM MST.
What is the damage policy?
A $300 credit card authorization deposit is required at rental. Wetsuits are European canyoning suits designed for hard use, but you must protect them—wearing clothing over the suit significantly reduces damage risk. Damage charges begin at a minimum of $20 per square inch; any damage exceeding 5 square inches, torn seams, or abrasions that pierce through the nylon and expose the rubber will result in the full $300 security deposit being charged. Normal surface fuzzing from the nylon is considered normal wear.
Cancellation Policy
Full payment is charged at time of booking. Cancellations more than 3 days from your rental will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within 72 hours prior to your rental are non-refundable. If Zion Adventures® cancels due to weather, you will receive a full refund.
