Description

Full-Day Behind the Scenes Food & Wine Bike Tour of Sonoma Valley

Some tours show you wine country. This one puts you inside it. The Full-Day Behind the Scenes Food & Wine Bike Tour is Sonoma's most immersive cycling experience — a 6-hour guided ride visiting two wineries, a behind-the-scenes cheese tasting at a local artisan producer, and a gourmet picnic lunch served on the vineyard grounds overlooking the vines. Your guide is a local with deep connections to the valley's winemakers, a sharp palate, and enough history, botany, and storytelling to make every mile feel like it counts.

The day covers 11 to 15 miles (18–24 km) of quiet Sonoma back roads at a pace that prioritizes the experience over the exercise. Pedal-assist e-bikes are standard — they keep everyone comfortable across every stretch and mean the conversation stays easy from the first mile to the last. You'll pedal an average of 3 to 5 miles (5–8 km) between stops, with the gourmet picnic arriving mid-ride, catered by Sonoma's Best Gourmet Deli and served in the open air on the winery grounds. The tour concludes back at the shop around 3:30–4:00pm — time enough to squeeze in a final tasting room visit before the day is done.

ADVENTURE PROVIDED BY Sonoma Valley Bike Tours

FAQs

What makes this tour different from other guided bike tours in Sonoma?

This is Sonoma's most complete guided biking experience. Compared to a half-day option, you'll visit two wineries instead of one, cover more ground (11–15 miles vs. 7–10), and include a gourmet picnic lunch served on the winery grounds — plus behind-the-scenes access to a local artisan cheese producer, an experience that isn't available on any other tour in the lineup. Book this one when you want the day to be the highlight of the trip.

What is the gourmet picnic lunch like?

Lunch is catered by Sonoma's Best Gourmet Deli and served on the vineyard grounds at a winery along the route. Expect a generous spread of artisan sandwiches — including turkey pesto with manchego and arugula, fresh caprese with mozzarella and pesto, and a salami, brie, caramelized onion, and pear combination — all lightly grilled on freshly made local baguette. Sandwiches are accompanied by fresh fruit, a dessert platter, and seasonal nibbles. Let the shop know in advance if you're celebrating a birthday — they like to build it into the day.

What is the behind-the-scenes cheese tasting?

The cheese experience is a genuine highlight of the Full-Day Tour — a behind-the-scenes visit to a local artisan cheese producer, not just a retail tasting. Note: this experience is not available on Sundays or Mondays. If your tour falls on one of those days, confirm with the shop what alternative may be offered.

How many wineries will we visit?

Two wineries are included on the Full-Day Tour. Your guide selects stops with a focus on smaller, boutique producers that offer something distinct — cave tastings, family-owned estates, limited production wines — rather than the big-name houses most visitors already know.

Are tasting fees included?

No — wine tasting fees are not included. Average fees run $35–45 per person per winery. Tastings are optional and can sometimes be shared; fees are often waived with a purchase. You'll know what to expect at each stop before you arrive.

How does the wine and merchandise pickup service work?

Any wine or merchandise you buy at the wineries during the tour will be collected by the team and waiting for you at the shop at the end of the day — so you don't have to carry anything on the bike.

How far will we ride?

You'll average 3 to 5 miles (5–8 km) between stops, for a total tour distance of approximately 11 to 15 miles (18–24 km). The terrain is mostly flat to gently rolling on quiet country back roads. The e-bikes make every mile comfortable regardless of fitness level.

Is this tour good people who haven't ridden in years?

Yes — the pace is set for tourists, not athletes. Pedal-assist e-bikes are the default, making the physical side genuinely easy. Guests who haven't ridden a bike in years consistently say the riding was one of their favorite parts of the day.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes — the Full-Day Tour is the most popular offering and sells out regularly, especially on weekends and during peak season (May–October). Book as early as possible to secure your preferred date.
