Description

Learn to Surf at Kapolei - Close to Disney Aulani Resort!

Immerse yourself in the Hawaiian lifestyle by learning one of the most exciting sports around with our surf lessons in Waikiki! The art of surfing is known as “He’e Nalu,” which means “wave sliding.” For Hawaiians, surfing was a central part of their culture. The “ali’i” or high class, claimed the highest reputation for skill with boards on waves; and this sport of intensity requires the utmost respect toward the beauty and power of the ocean.
Surfing is now a lifestyle for many and we invite you to try it out for yourself with some surf lessons on the west side of Oahu. Learn how to surf in ideal conditions—where the waves are warm and inviting and there’s never a crowd! Kalaeloa Beach Park is a secret gem on the west side of Oahu, close to the Disney resort Aulani.
We’ll start with a land demonstration and move the lesson to the ocean. Depending on the student’s weight and ability, we’ll have the student go tandem surfing or surfing alongside the instructor. No matter what, the instructor will be with you every step of the way.
If you'd like to learn to surf closer to Honolulu, check out our Surf Lessons at Ala Moana! If you're looking for a slower activity, check out our SUP Lessons in Pokai Bay!

FAQs

What is the difference between the lesson options?
The private one-on-one lesson is specially designed for your precious keikis—or kids—between three and 11 years old. Having the undivided attention of our experienced surf instructor is guaranteed to be the safest and most effective way for young keiki to surf real Hawaiian waves. Depending on your child’s weight and ability, we’ll have the keiki surfer go tandem surfing or surfing alongside the instructor. No matter what, the instructor will be with your child every step of the way.
The exclusive option has a maximum of two students per an instructor for a more personal lesson. While the group options are a minimum of 4 students and maximum of 10 students, which is a good option for those not needing extra attention that just want to get on the waves!
How early in advance do you need to reserve lessons?
On Oahu we are blessed to have beginner waves year round, morning to evening. We handle same day reservations, but we recommend reservations with advanced notice. An advantage to booking ahead of time is access to our FAQ for Registered Students. Surfing is an awesome experience and we are here to help you do your best. Our pre-registration FAQ gives you an edge in your surfing lesson.
What if the weather is bad?
Our activity is supposed to be fun for everybody so if it looks like it’s not going to be, we’ll reschedule if it’s possible. If not, we’ll refund. Other than weather and illness, cancellations within 24 hours are not refunded, cancellations between 24 and 48 hours are half refunded, and cancellations outside of 48 hours are fully refunded.
Should I be worried about sharks?
Incidents of sharks biting people in Hawaiian waters are very rare, occurring on average at a rate of about three or four per year. Fatal shark bites are extremely rare, especially considering the number of people in Hawaii’s waters. People who enter the water need to recognize that there are hidden dangers. A number of marine animals can cause serious injury to people, and sharks are just one example. Entering the ocean should be considered a “wilderness experience,” where people are visitors in a world that belongs to the sharks. The risk of injury caused by sharks is extremely small, but it is a risk accepted by anyone who enters the shark’s world. By learning more about sharks, using common sense, and observing the following safety tips, the risk may be greatly reduced.
