Sunday Early Bird Maui Shore Dive – 1 or 2 Tanks
Pricing
Description
Beat the Crowds, Dive the Reef & Still Make It to Brunch!
Meet your guide directly at the dive site at 7:00 AM, where they'll walk you through a complete site and safety briefing, help everyone gear up, and run buddy checks before you head in from the beach. Below the surface, you'll explore one of South Maui's coral reefs, chosen that morning based on ocean conditions. Colorful reef fish, sea turtles, rays, and eels are regular companions, and seasonal surprises keep every dive a little different.
By the time most of the island is reaching for its first cup of coffee, you'll already have a Maui dive behind you — with the rest of your Sunday wide open for the beach, brunch, or your next adventure. Choose one tank for a quick morning dive, or two for extra time underwater and another chance to explore the reef.

FAQs
When does the Early Bird Dive run?
The Early Bird Dive runs on Sunday mornings, meeting at the dive site at 7:00 AM.
Where do we meet for the Early Bird Dive?
Unlike our other shore dives, the Early Bird Dive meets directly at the dive site rather than at the shop. Because of this, please stop by the shop a day or two before your scheduled dive to show your certification card and get properly fitted for your rental equipment.
Why dive early in the morning?
Mornings are one of the best times of day to dive on Maui. Conditions are typically calm, the reef is quieter before the crowds arrive, and you'll still have most of your Sunday free for the beach, brunch, sightseeing, or your next adventure.
Do I need to be a certified diver for the Early Bird Dive?
Yes. This dive is for certified divers only, and you must have been diving within the last 5 years. You should be comfortable diving in current ocean conditions, and divers who have been out of the water for an extended period may be asked to complete a refresher before participating.
What's the difference between the 1-tank and 2-tank Early Bird Dive?
Both options start with the same briefing and gear-up at the dive site. The 2-tank option adds a second dive, giving you more time underwater and another opportunity to explore Maui's reefs.
Can divers under 18 join the Early Bird Dive?
Yes, certified divers under 18 are welcome, but a parent or legal guardian must remain at the shore dive site for the full activity.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes, we recommend booking ahead. Our groups are intentionally kept small, so spaces are limited — once a space is reserved for you, it may no longer be available to another guest.
Do I need my own transportation?
Yes. Transportation is not included, and you're responsible for getting to and from the shop and the dive site. For most dives, you'll meet at the shop at 7:00 AM to get fitted for your gear, then follow your guide to the dive site in your own vehicle. Some dives meet directly at the dive site — your booking details will let you know where to go.
Is there a minimum number of divers for a dive to run?
Yes. Our dives require at least 2 participants to operate. If the minimum isn't met, we'll reach out to reschedule your dive.
What marine life can I see when diving South Maui's reefs?
South Maui's reefs are home to a wide range of tropical reef fish, Hawaiian green sea turtles, rays, and eels, along with fish species found only in Hawaii. Divers have also spotted spotted eagle rays and frogfish with our guides. Every dive is a little different, and seasonal surprises do show up! During the winter months, humpback whales visit Maui's waters, and you may even hear their songs while you're underwater.
What is shore diving in South Maui like? What is the depth like?
Most of our shore dive sites have easy, sandy entries — usually just a short walk across the beach — leading to coral reefs at comfortable depths of around 40 ft (12 m). Because you enter from the beach, there's no boat ride involved, which makes shore diving a great choice if you're prone to seasickness. Your guide selects the dive site each day based on current ocean conditions and the experience level of the group.
What are some of the dive sites your tours go to?
We dive a rotation of South Maui shore sites, including popular spots like Makena Landing and Ulua Beach. Because the site is chosen on the day based on ocean conditions, specific dive sites can't be guaranteed.
When is the best time to dive in Maui?
Maui offers diving year-round, and mornings are typically one of the best times of day to get in the water. Morning conditions are often calmer, and the reefs are quieter before the rest of the island gets moving.
Who are the guides, and what certifications do they hold?
Every dive is led by an experienced PADI dive professional. Our shop has been part of Maui's diving community since 1999 and is a family-run PADI 5-Star Instructor Development Center. Our team's backgrounds include professional scuba and freediving instruction, boat operations, and marine science, along with countless hours exploring Maui's waters.
What sunscreen can I use and why does it matter?
Common sunscreens contain chemicals that can harm coral reefs, as the particles are small enough to be absorbed by corals, causing toxicity and coral bleaching. Reef-friendly sunscreens are formulated without these harmful chemicals. Reef-SAFE sunscreens go a step further by using non-nano particles, which are too large for corals to ingest, helping to preserve marine ecosystems. Please avoid sunscreens with oxybenzone, octinoxate, and parabens. Consider wearing sun-protective clothing, like long-sleeve rash guards, as an alternative to sunscreen. If you choose a mineral-based sunscreen, ensure it is labeled 'non-nano.'
Can I fly after diving?
Flying directly after scuba diving is incredibly dangerous and could result in a life-threatening illness called the Bends/Decompression Sickness. The Divers Alert Network (DAN) guidelines for flying after diving include:
- A single no-decompression dive, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000 ft (305 m) interval of 18 hours suggested.
- Multiple dives per day or multiple days of diving, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000ft (305m) interval of 24 hours is suggested.
- Dives requiring decompression stops are recommended to have longer than 18 hours.
Please discuss with your dive guide ahead of time what is suggested!
Can I go hiking or visit Haleakala after diving?
Any activity that brings you above 1000 ft (305 m) can trigger the Bends/Decompression Sickness. Please check your hike elevation to ensure that at no time you will be going up in elevation. If the hike does go to elevation, you must treat it like a preflight interval as listed above in the flying FAQ.
