Description

Winter Summit Fever 2.0 - Private Intermediate/Advanced Winter Mountain Summit Snowshoe Hike

Reaching a summit is one thing in summer. Doing it on snowshoes, with snow and ice underfoot and the wind picking up as you climb, is another kind of accomplishment entirely. This hike is built around that winter push to the top — a longer, more demanding outing that rewards real effort with a view most visitors never get in the colder months.

Your guide leads the way through changing winter terrain, continually reading snow and trail conditions as you climb toward the summit, sharing the geology and history of the peak along the way. The payoff at the top is a wide-open, snow-covered view across the range — the kind of moment that makes the cold, the climb, and the effort worth it.

Duration

  1. Total trip length: approximately 8 hours, including check-in, the drive to the trailhead, breaks, and snowshoeing time

Location / Where to Meet

  1. Guests are picked up directly for groups of fewer than 4 — pickup location entered at checkout, must be within Estes Park
  2. For groups of 4 or more, your guide establishes a meeting point in Estes Park or at the trailhead instead
  3. Exact trailhead and summit destination are selected by your guide based on trip length, weather, snow conditions, and group ability

Ages & Requirements

  1. Minimum age: 12+
  2. A legal parent or guardian must accompany any participant under 18
  3. This is an advanced hike - expect snow and ice underfoot, exposed terrain, and sustained cold-weather effort; best suited to hikers comfortable with a strenuous winter climb
  4. Group size: 1–5 people per trip; every trip is a private, custom booking for your party only
  5. Guests should be comfortable navigating steep, snow-covered, and potentially icy terrain, and capable of sustained physical exertion in cold conditions for several hours

What's Included

  1. A private, custom-designed snowshoe hike built around your group's pace and interests
  2. A professional, Wilderness First Aid/CPR-certified guide
  3. Snowshoes fitted for the trip, plus micro-spikes if trail conditions call for them
  4. Trekking poles for the hike
  5. Hand and/or toe warmers
  6. Education on the surrounding geology, history, and winter landscape
  7. Extra layers and packs available if needed

FAQs

What is this hike about?

This hike is built around a winter push to a mountain summit on snowshoes, with your guide leading the way through changing terrain and reading snow and trail conditions throughout the climb before a final approach to the top.

How difficult is this hike?

This is rated an intermediate-to-advanced winter hike, with sustained elevation gain, cold-weather exertion, and snow- or ice-covered terrain over a full day.

What happens if conditions aren't safe to reach the summit?

Your guide continually assesses snow and trail conditions throughout the climb. Safety comes first, and your guide may adjust the route, pace, or turnaround point as needed.

Do we need prior snowshoeing experience?

No — your guide fits you with gear and walks you through the basics before setting out, though guests should be prepared for a demanding winter climb.

Will we see wildlife on this hike?

Sightings aren't guaranteed, but elk, mule deer, and other wildlife remain active in the park through winter.

What can I expect to see and do on a guided hike?

Beyond the hiking itself, your guide shares knowledge of the local history, geology, flowers, and trees, and keeps an eye out for wildlife along the way. If animals are spotted while driving and it's safe to stop, your guide will pull over so the group can observe from a safe distance. Elk, mule deer, marmots, pikas, and bighorn sheep are commonly seen, with moose and other wildlife possible as well.

Are your guides certified?

Yes. Guides are professional, trained, and Wilderness First Aid/CPR-certified.

How big are the groups, and will I be with strangers?

Every trip is a private, custom trip booked exclusively for your party — you won't be combined with other travelers. Group sizes run from 1 to 9 people, based on Rocky Mountain National Park's group-size regulations for a single certified guide.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, advance booking is recommended, especially during the busy summer season, to ensure guide and date availability.

Do I need a park pass?

You'll need a valid park pass or to pay the park entrance fee, but since you're on a guided trip, a timed-entry permit is not required — your guide handles that reservation for your group. Credit or debit is required at the park entrance; cash is not accepted.
