Sip & Cycle: E-Bike Wine Adventure — Guided Electric Bike Tour in New Buffalo, Michigan

Southwest Michigan is one of the Midwest's most celebrated wine regions — and this 3-hour private e-bike tour is the most enjoyable way to experience it. Your guide leads the group along the beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline and into the heart of Harbor Country's wine trail, arriving at a local tasting room for a curated selection of Michigan wines and beers made right here in the region. The wines, the setting, and the ride there are all exceptional — and with the Pedego's pedal-assist handling the terrain, you'll arrive at the tasting room as relaxed as if you'd been chauffeured.

FAQs

Where does the tour go and what will we see?

The tour departs from the shop and follows the Lake Michigan shoreline through Harbor Country's scenic coastal corridor. The route passes beach access points, charming village streets, and the beautiful inland lake scenery that defines this region before arriving at a local tasting room for a curated selection of Michigan wines and beers. A TripAdvisor reviewer describes the scenery as "beautiful" and the tastings as "great" — with the guide sharing local knowledge throughout the ride. The exact tasting room may vary by availability; confirm the destination with the shop at booking.

What Michigan wines and beers can I expect to taste?

Harbor Country sits in the heart of Michigan's Southwestern wine region — one of the state's premier wine appellations, known for Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc grown along the lake's eastern shore. The tasting selection will feature locally produced wines and Michigan craft beers. Confirm the specific tasting room and current offerings with the shop when booking.

How big can our group be?

Tours can accommodate up to 8 guests.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes — this is a popular private tour experience. Book as early as possible, especially for weekend dates during peak season (June through September).

What is a Pedego electric bike and how does it work?

Pedego electric bikes use a pedal-assist system — as you pedal, the motor kicks in to amplify your effort. You can dial the assist level up or down depending on how much help you want, and most models also have a throttle that propels the bike without pedaling. In Harbor Country's mostly flat coastal terrain, the result is effortless cruising along the Lake Michigan shoreline, through charming village streets, and out to beaches and local stops at a pace that's entirely yours to set.

How far can I go on a single charge?

Most Pedego bikes are rated for 20–60 miles (32–97 km) per charge. Harbor Country's flat terrain is easy on the battery — riders typically cover 15–20 miles (24–32 km) on the self-guided rental routes with plenty of charge to spare.

Do I need experience riding a bicycle to rent an e-bike?

You must be able to ride a bicycle independently before renting. Staff will walk you through a thorough orientation on the controls, pedal-assist levels, and throttle before you head out.

Are helmets required?

Michigan state law does not require helmets for adult Class 1 or Class 2 e-bike riders. Helmets are strongly recommended and available at the shop.

Do I need to be physically fit?

Not at all. New Buffalo and the Harbor Country shoreline are predominantly flat, making the riding accessible and comfortable for all fitness levels regardless of e-bike experience.

What is the weather policy?

Rentals and tours go forward in all but severe weather. Southwest Michigan summers are warm and beautiful, but Lake Michigan can bring wind and weather changes — a light layer is always a good idea. Contact the shop directly if severe weather is forecast on your day.

What happens if I get a flat tire or the bike has a mechanical issue?

Contact the shop directly. Lock bikes securely whenever you stop along the route.

What time does the shop open and close?

Thursday–Friday 10:00 AM–4:00 PM; Saturday 10:00 AM–4:00 PM; Sunday 11:00 AM–3:00 PM. Closed Monday–Wednesday. All bikes must be returned by closing time.
