A Private Surf Experience for Your Family or Group
The Semi-Private Surfing Lesson at Kona Mike's Surf Adventures is your group's own exclusive session — no outside students added, no rotations. Ideal for families, couples, and small groups of friends who want to learn to surf together in a personalized, supportive setting at Kahalu'u Beach on the Big Island of Hawai'i.
Your professional instructor tailors every part of the lesson to your group's skill level and comfort — whether you're complete beginners or have some experience in the water. For younger children ages 10 and under, each child is paired one-on-one with their own personal instructor for safety and the best learning experience. It's a great bonding activity and a truly Hawaiian memory for the whole family.
Kona Mike's has been teaching visitors to surf at Kahalu'u Bay for over 18 years. All instructors are CPR and First Aid certified, trained in professional rescue, and Hawaii Lifeguard certified. All equipment is included — just show up ready to have fun.
Duration
Approximately 1.5 to 2 hours on the water. Check-in is at 8:00 AM for the morning session (surfing 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM) or 11:00 AM for the midday session (surfing 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM).

Kahalu'u Beach Park, Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i. Specific meeting location is provided upon booking.

All ages welcome. Ages 11 and up require a minimum of two adults per booking. Children ages 10 and under are each paired one-on-one with a personal instructor.

Is this lesson really private?
Yes. This is your group's exclusive session — no outside students will be added. You surf only with the people you book with.
What ages can join the semi-private lesson?
All ages are welcome. Adults and participants ages 11 and up require a minimum of 2 people per booking. Children ages 10 and under are each paired one-on-one with their own personal instructor for safety.
How many people can join?
Minimum 2 adults for the ages 11+ option. For families with young children, each child ages 10 and under gets their own dedicated instructor.
What equipment is provided?
Surfboard, rash guard, and safety gear are all included. Just bring your swimwear and sunscreen.
Are instructors certified?
Yes. All Kona Mike's instructors are CPR and First Aid certified, trained in professional rescue, and Hawaii Lifeguard certified with at least 10 years of surfing experience.
Cancellation Policy
Customers will receive a full refund with 24 hours notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Contact us by phone to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows will be charged the full price.
