Description

Bike Wine Country — Self-Guided E-Bike Rental & Wine Tasting at Concannon Vineyard — Livermore, California

Pedego Electric Bikes and Concannon Vineyard have teamed up to bring you the ultimate day in the Livermore Valley. Pick up an e-bike at the Concannon estate, spend three hours riding the wine trails, parks, and paths that radiate out from the vineyard at your own pace — then return to Concannon for a reserved seated tasting of their award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah.

The ride is entirely self-guided: staff equips you with maps, directions, and a route customized to your interests, and the Livermore Valley's network of bike paths and wine trails does the rest. The Pedego's pedal-assist handles the rolling terrain so you can keep your eyes on the vines and stop wherever the mood takes you. Three hours gives you enough time to explore the broader valley, visit a neighboring winery or two, and still return relaxed for your tasting.

Concannon is no ordinary finishing stop. Founded in 1883, it's a California Historical Landmark that introduced America's first Petite Sirah varietal wine and developed the Cabernet Sauvignon Clones 7, 8, and 11 that now account for roughly 80% of all Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in California. The seated tasting — featuring their signature Cab and Petite Sirah — is a fitting end to a morning spent riding through the valley they helped put on the map.

This package is for guests 21 and older. A valid ID is required.

FAQs

Is this a guided tour?

No — this is a self-guided e-bike rental paired with a reserved wine tasting, not a guided tour. Staff equip you with maps, directions, and a personalized route at pickup, and the destination is entirely yours for the next three hours. You ride at your own pace, stop wherever you like, and return to Concannon when you're ready for your tasting.

How do I reserve my Concannon wine tasting?

Booking this package is a two-step process:

  1. Book your e-bike rental through TripOutside (click "Check Availability" above).
  2. Visit concannon.wine to reserve your seated tasting. Use promo code PEDEGO at checkout to redeem the included tasting.

A credit card is required to hold your Concannon reservation, but you will not be charged by Concannon — your tasting is covered as part of this package. You are only charged at checkout on TripOutside.

What is Concannon Vineyard and why is it significant?

Concannon Vineyard was founded in 1883 by Irish immigrant James Concannon and has shaped American winemaking in ways still felt today. The winery introduced the country's first Petite Sirah as a varietal wine in 1961, and developed Cabernet Sauvignon Clones 7, 8, and 11 — genetics now found in roughly 80% of all Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in California. The estate is a registered California Historical Landmark, and its flagship Clone 7 Cabernet Sauvignon has earned 93–94 points from Wine Enthusiast.

Where can I ride during the 3-hour rental?

The Livermore Valley wine trail network starts right at Concannon's gates. Popular nearby destinations include Steven Kent Winery (0.7 miles / 1.1 km), Garré Vineyard (2.7 miles / 4.3 km), and Wente Vineyards (3 miles / 4.8 km). Staff will customize a route based on your interests and which wineries are open on your visit day. You can also simply ride the scenic paths, take in the views, and return relaxed — the route is yours.

What wines will I taste at Concannon?

The included seated tasting features Concannon's award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. Concannon's current tasting menu and options are available at concannon.wine.

What are the timing logistics for the day?

Gates open at 11:15 AM. Arrive by 11:30 AM and allow 30 minutes for orientation — you'll depart on the bike around 12:00 PM and return around 3:00 PM. Your tasting will be reserved and waiting. The final tasting reservation of the day is at 3:30 PM on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. All bikes must be returned by 5:00 PM.

Are there any blackout dates?

Yes — this offer is not valid on May 17–18, October 11–12, or holidays. Check availability when booking.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes — booking in advance is strongly recommended. Weekend dates and warm-weather months fill quickly. Reserve your Pedego rental on TripOutside first, then use promo code PEDEGO at concannon.wine to hold your tasting.

What is a Pedego electric bike and how does it work?

Pedego electric bikes use a pedal-assist system — as you pedal, the motor kicks in to amplify your effort. You can adjust the assist level to get as much or as little help as you want, and most models have a throttle for power without pedaling at all. In the Livermore Valley, that assistance is especially welcome on the rolling wine trail roads and on warm afternoons when a cool glass of something is waiting at the next stop.

How far can I go on a single charge?

Most Pedego bikes are rated for 20–60 miles (32–97 km) per charge. The Livermore Valley wine trail network is well within range for a full day of winery hopping — riders regularly cover 15–25 miles (24–40 km) across multiple stops with battery to spare.

Do I need experience riding a bicycle to rent an e-bike?

You should be able to ride a standard bicycle before renting. Staff will provide a full orientation and practice time before you head out, and the laminated route maps make self-guided navigation easy. The valley's dedicated bike paths are well-suited to riders of all experience levels.

Are helmets required?

Yes — helmets are required by shop policy and are included with every rental and tour. California law requires riders under 18 to wear a helmet.

Do I need to be a strong cyclist?

Not at all. The e-bike's pedal-assist handles the rolling terrain of the Livermore Valley without effort. The wine trail routes are designed for riders of all fitness levels, and many guests have never ridden an e-bike before their first visit.

Can I bring wine back with me?

Yes — every rental bike can be equipped with a pannier bag and wine bottle carrier upon request. Pick up a bottle (or a few) along your route and they'll ride safely back with you.

What is the weather policy?

Rentals and tours go forward in all but severe weather. The Livermore Valley is known for hot, sunny summers — early start times are strongly recommended from June through September. Full refund for cancellations made at least 24 hours in advance.

What happens if I get a flat tire or the bike has a mechanical issue?

Contact the shop directly. Keep bikes locked when stopped and secure them whenever you're inside a tasting room.

Is parking available?

Yes — free parking is available at Concannon Vineyard at 4590 Tesla Rd.

What time does the shop open and close?

Monday and Thursday through Sunday, 11:30 AM–5:00 PM. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday. All bikes must be returned at least 30 minutes before closing.

Customers will receive a full refund or credit with 72 hours notice of cancellation.
