Description
Lazy River Kayak or SUP Float Trip - Knik River near Anchorage
Drift down a glacier-carved stretch of the Knik River on this relaxed, family-friendly float. Surrounded by the Chugach Mountains, this trip is built for guests who want scenery and wildlife-watching without a workout — the current does most of the work, leaving you free to sit back and take in the valley.
After checking in at the Glenn Highway Bridge, you'll transfer to Old Knik Bridge and set off downstream, letting the slow but steady current of the glacier-fed Knik River carry your kayak or SUP along. The river braids and bends through the valley here, opening up views of the surrounding mountains as you float past sandbars, gravel bars, and quiet stretches of shoreline.
Keep watch along the banks and skies for moose, bears, eagles, and salmon as you go — this stretch of river is a favorite for wildlife-spotting precisely because the pace is so unhurried. Snacks and hot and cold drinks come along for the ride, and the trip wraps back up near Reflections Lake, close to where it began.

FAQs
Is transportation from Anchorage included?
Transportation is not included in the tour price. Your guides offer a round-trip shuttle from downtown Anchorage for an additional flat fee of $175 per group (1–6 people). The shuttle meets guests at the downtown Anchorage Visitor's Center (the Log Cabin) and is roughly a 45-minute ride each way to the meeting point. Shuttle service is also available from Palmer or Wasilla for $85. Shuttle service must be requested and scheduled in advance.
Do I need previous paddling experience?
No prior experience is needed for these trips. They're designed to welcome beginners, and your guide will cover paddling basics before you head out on the water.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Online reservations must be made by 5 PM the day before your scheduled tour.
What wildlife might I see?
Your guides paddle through glacier-formed lakes, marshlands, and river systems where river otters, beavers, bald eagles, salmon, ducks, owls, porcupines, moose, bears, and coyotes have all been spotted. Sightings are never guaranteed, but the terrain is prime wildlife habitat.
What is the route for this float?
The trip starts and ends at the Glenn Highway Knik River Bridge, near Reflections Lake. After check-in, guests are transferred to Old Knik Bridge, where they board their paddle craft and float the Knik River's current back to the starting point.
How difficult is this trip compared to your Anchorage kayak tours?
This is one of the easiest options for kayaking near Anchorage — it's a float with the current rather than a paddling workout, though guests may need to paddle briefly near the end depending on tide and wind.
Can I bring young kids on this float?
Yes, this trip is specifically designed with beginners and families in mind, and it's one of the more relaxed options for a first-time paddling trip with children.
Is swimming allowed during the float?
No — the Knik River is glacier-fed and stays cold year-round, so jumping in isn't recommended.
