Description
Russian River Kayaking Tour near Healdsburg
Slow down, breathe deep, and let the Russian River carry you through one of the most serene and naturally beautiful stretches of Northern California Wine Country. On this guided kayaking tour — affectionately called "The Peaceful Paddle" — you'll spend 3 hours paddling a calm, scenic 3-mile (5 km) stretch of the Russian River through a near-wilderness landscape of towering Douglas firs, redwoods, and ancient oaks.
Your day begins at 10:30 AM at the Wohler Bridge parking area, where your guide meets you, fits everyone with gear, and leads a paddling orientation and safety talk. Then you're off — gliding up the river in comfortable double (or single) kayaks along a gentle current, eyes peeled for the wildlife that calls this stretch of river home. Western pond turtles are often spotted basking on logs; great blue herons stand like sentinels at the water's edge; snowy egrets, ducks, river otters, and the occasional bald eagle or family of bobcats round out the wildlife cast. There are regular beach stops for swimming, and a popular jumping rock for those who want to make a splash.
After returning to the put-in, your guide serves a delicious picnic lunch in a beautiful redwood grove. You'll be wrapped up by 2:00 PM — leaving plenty of afternoon time for winery visits, exploring Healdsburg, or simply relaxing. Tours depart at 10:30 AM or 1:30 PM.
For more adventurous paddlers with prior experience, a longer "Mild to Wild" option is available: a 9-mile (14.5 km) one-way stretch from Healdsburg to Forestville with a few more rapids and a 4-hour paddle. This option requires a shuttle and has limited availability — call ahead to inquire.
