Description

Electric Bike Tour of the Silver Kings Historic Mine Sites – Leadville, CO

Head out from downtown Leadville on an e-bike and climb into the hills that once drove Colorado's silver boom, tracing a loop past 14 of the district's oldest mine sites. The route winds through the high country surrounding town, with your guide filling in the history behind each mine and ghost-town relic as you pass — the fortunes made, the busts that followed, and what's left of it all today.

With the e-bike doing the climbing, this is a ride that trades effort for time to actually take in the mining relics and mountain views around you, covering real ground through Leadville's high country without needing to be an experienced cyclist to keep up.

FAQs

Do I need previous e-biking experience to join a tour?

No experience is needed — our guided rides are beginner friendly, and your guide will make sure you're comfortable with the bike before you head out. You'll just need to be comfortable riding a regular bike.

What will we see on this ride?

This route loops past 14 of Leadville's oldest mine sites, with your guide sharing the history of the district's silver boom and the mines and relics still standing today.

How far do we ride?

This is a 20-mile guided loop through Leadville's historic mining district, back to the starting point.

Should I bring a camera?

Yes — this route passes numerous historic mine sites and relics, so a camera is worth bringing along. We recommend bringing a small backpack for anything you want to carry along, like a camera or personal items.

Should I prepare for altitude before this tour?

Yes — Leadville sits at 10,152 ft, so the air is noticeably thinner and drier than most guests are used to. Drink water often, even before you feel thirsty, and don't be surprised if you feel a bit more winded than usual. Headaches, dizziness, or feeling out of breath after minimal effort are common at this elevation — if you start feeling off, just let your guide know and we'll happily slow down or take a break. There's no prize for pushing through it.

What is the terrain like on this route?

The Silver Kings route is a mix of pavement and gravel through the hills surrounding Leadville, rated easy to moderate thanks to the e-bike's climbing assist. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are recommended.

Will we see any wildlife?

It's possible! Leadville is home to plenty of local wildlife, including the occasional moose. If you spot one, please admire it from a distance — moose can be unpredictable up close. We ask that you not feed or approach any wildlife along the ride.

Can we explore any of the old mine sites up close?

For safety, we stick to the route and don't explore inside old mine shafts or structures — they may look interesting, but abandoned mining sites can be genuinely dangerous. Your guide will point out the history and give you a good look from a safe distance.

What happens if an afternoon thunderstorm rolls in during the tour?

Afternoon thunderstorms are common in the Colorado high country, especially in summer. If lightning is in the area, we'll pause the tour and move away from exposed or high points until it passes. Your safety always comes first — we'd rather wait it out than rush through weather.

Cancellation Policy

Full refund if canceled at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time; no refund inside that window. If the tour is canceled due to poor weather, guests are offered a different date or a full refund.
