Paddle into one of the most extraordinary natural places in North America on this guided 2-hour kayak eco-tour through the mangrove tunnels and waterways of the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. Stretching across 110,000 acres from Naples to the western Everglades, Rookery Bay is one of the last undisturbed mangrove estuaries on the continent — a living, breathing coastal wilderness where more than 150 species of birds and over 70 threatened and endangered species make their home. Your guides know this place intimately, and it shows.

The tour launches from the Isles of Capri Paddlecraft Park and takes you deep into the heart of Rookery Bay, weaving through mangrove mazes and tunnels where the roots form a living labyrinth above and below the waterline. Your guide — a certified naturalist and herpetologist with deep expertise in Southwest Florida's coastal ecosystems — will bring these tunnels to life. Look closely at the mangrove roots and you may spot mangrove tree crabs and mangrove periwinkles going about their day just inches from your kayak. Out in the open water, you'll explore oyster reefs, mudflats, and hidden bays, with your guide narrating the ecology, history, and wildlife of one of Florida's most protected natural areas along the way.

Wildlife here is as varied as it is abundant. Dolphins and manatees cruise the open channels. Ospreys hunt from the treetops. Great blue herons stand motionless in the shallows. In the right conditions, you may paddle past horse conchs, lightning whelks, sea stars, and urchins resting in the clear water below your hull. Some tours include a sandbar or island stop where guests can get out, explore, and look for shells on their own — one of those rare moments where a tour stops feeling like a tour and starts feeling like a genuine discovery.

Groups are kept small to ensure a personal, unhurried experience, and the pace is set for enjoyment, not endurance. Single and tandem kayaks are both available, making this equally suited to solo paddlers, couples, and families with children as young as 4. Complimentary photos are taken throughout the tour so you can stay present in the moment and still leave with something to show for it.

Location / Where to Meet

Isles of Capri Paddlecraft Park — 1295 Capri Blvd, Naples, FL 34113. The park is located approximately 5 miles (8 km) from central Marco Island, just north of the Isle of Capri community. Upon arrival, find your guide by the Florida Adventures and Rentals truck and trailer. They will provide all safety gear, answer questions, start your waivers, and walk you through a paddling orientation before launch. Please note that all participants must complete a waiver before the tour can begin. Restrooms, picnic pavilions, and a freshwater rinse station are available at the park. Parking is paid on-site.

Please note: if you arrive late to check-in, you may be subject to rescheduling or cancellation without a refund. Arriving 30 minutes early is required.

Ages & Requirements

1. Ages 4 and up welcome; children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
   
2. Minimum age to paddle a kayak independently is 12 years old. Kids ages 4–11 must be in a tandem kayak with an adult or older sibling
   
3. Single kayak and paddleboard weight limit: 250 lbs (113 kg)
   
4. Tandem kayak weight limit: 250 lbs (113 kg) per person
   
5. No prior kayaking experience required — suitable for all skill levels
   
6. Not recommended for individuals with back or shoulder injuries, or those who have recently had surgery
   
7. Pregnant guests should consult their doctor before booking; if cleared, they may ride as a passenger in a tandem kayak with another adult handling the paddling
