Description
Guided Wild & Scenic River Eco Kayak Tour – Rock Springs Run, Apopka, FL
This is Rock Springs Run in its entirety. The Eco River Adventure Shuttle Run is a 5-hour guided kayak tour covering the full 8.5 miles / 13.7 km of this federally designated Wild and Scenic River — from the crystal-clear springhead all the way downstream to Wekiva Island. It's the most comprehensive way to experience everything this remarkable river has to offer, and one of the most memorable full-day paddling adventures in Central Florida.
The tour begins with a golf cart ride to the top of the run, where you'll enter the crystal-clear spring water just moments from the springhead. From there, it's an entirely downstream float — over one mile of the world-famous Emerald Cut with its brilliant emerald water and jungle-like canopy, transitioning into the quieter, more tannic Wild Florida stretch of the river where the real wilderness begins. Rock Springs Run has been featured in National Geographic documentaries on Florida's spring systems and the Florida Black Bear — the largest colony of black bears in one area is found right here along this run.
As the river winds deeper into Wild Florida, the ever-changing landscape — from open grassy banks to dense subtropical hammock — keeps every bend interesting. Wildlife encounters are abundant and close: alligators, river otters, white-tailed deer, turtles, black bears, and an array of birds including great egrets, herons, and bald eagles are all commonly spotted. Your guide will lead you through the full journey, stopping at favorite swimming spots and sharing the natural and cultural history of this ancient river corridor, including the passageways once used by the Timucuan Indians.
The tour concludes at Wekiva Island, where your shuttle returns you to King's Landing. If time allows, guests are welcome to unwind at The Tooting Otter craft beer and wine bar, grab a bite at the Without A Paddle Café, or relax on the boardwalk overlooking the river before heading back.
This is an intermediate-level paddling activity. Due to the length and duration of the tour — up to 5 hours on the water — participants must be in good physical condition, comfortable with extended paddling, and at ease with Florida wildlife and nature.

What is the Eco River Adventure Shuttle Run?
This is a 5-hour guided kayak tour covering the full 8.5 miles / 13.7 km of Rock Springs Run from the springhead to Wekiva Island — entirely downstream. A golf cart takes you to the private launch at the top of the run, and a shuttle returns you to King's Landing at the end. It's the most complete guided experience on the river, covering the Emerald Cut, the Wild Florida section, and the final stretch to the Wekiva River. Intermediate paddling experience is required.
Does this cover more river than other tours on Rock Springs Run?
Yes, the Eco River Adventure covers the entire 8.5 miles / 13.7 km of Rock Springs Run. It's a full-day commitment suited to intermediate paddlers comfortable with extended time on the water.
Do I need prior paddling experience for this tour?
Yes — this is an intermediate-level tour. You should be comfortable paddling for extended periods, at ease in moving water, and confident around Florida wildlife including alligators. First-time or casual paddlers are better suited to the Emerald Cut Kayak Adventure or VIP Wild Florida Kayak Adventure.
Is this tour suitable for kids?
The minimum age for this tour is 13 years old. Given the 5-hour duration, physical demands, and the more remote nature of the Wild Florida section, it is not appropriate for younger children. Teens 13 and older who are experienced, confident swimmers and comfortable outdoors are welcome.
How far is the paddle and how physically demanding is it?
The tour covers 8.5 miles / 13.7 km entirely downstream — the current does a lot of the work, but you will be paddling actively for up to 5 hours. Good physical fitness and comfort with sustained activity on the water are required. Bring plenty of food and water.
Are there swimming opportunities on the tour?
Yes — your guide will stop at the best spots along the way for a swim. The spring water near the top of the run is crystal-clear and refreshing year-round. Wearing a swimsuit is recommended.
What is at Wekiva Island at the end of the tour?
Wekiva Island is a riverside park and entertainment venue at the confluence of Rock Springs Run and the Wekiva River. Guests arriving at the end of the tour are welcome to enjoy The Tooting Otter craft beer and wine bar, the Without A Paddle Café, and a scenic boardwalk overlooking the river before the shuttle returns you to King's Landing.
Can I bring my phone or camera?
Yes, but bring a dry bag or waterproof case. You will be on the water for up to 5 hours and there is a real chance of getting wet. The outfitter is not responsible for damaged or lost items.
What is Rock Springs Run and what makes it special?
Rock Springs Run is one of only two designated Wild and Scenic Rivers in Florida, flowing through the heart of the Wekiva River Basin. It is spring-fed, which means the water maintains a constant, crystal-clear quality year-round at a refreshing temperature. The Emerald Cut section is particularly famous for its brilliant green water, overhanging jungle-like canopy, and sandy riverbed. It is a genuine natural oasis only 30 minutes from Orlando.
What wildlife can I expect to see?
Rock Springs Run is rich with Florida wildlife. Commonly spotted animals include river otters, turtles, white-tailed deer, alligators, black bears, and a wide variety of bird species including great egrets, herons, and bald eagles. The spring-fed water also supports diverse fish species visible through the clear water. The river corridor is home to the largest colony of Florida Black Bear in one area and has been featured in National Geographic documentaries.
Are pets allowed?
No — for safety reasons, dogs and all other pets are not permitted at King's Landing. Service animals are permitted but must remain under the handler's control at all times.
Can I bring a cooler?
Yes, coolers are welcome. However, no glass, no Styrofoam, and no alcohol are permitted. All coolers will be checked before launching.
Are speakers or music allowed on the water?
Speakers are not allowed on any vessel launching from King's Landing. This policy is in place to preserve the natural experience for all guests on the water.
Is parking available?
Free street parking is available along the road outside the property. Locker rentals and luggage storage are also available on-site for a fee.
What is the weather policy? Will the tour run if it rains?
Tours run rain or shine in most conditions. Tours will only be canceled by a staff member in the event of severe weather or a safety concern. In that case, a full refund is provided. Light rain, overcast skies, or cool temperatures are not grounds for cancellation. If you have concerns about weather on your booking date, contact the team in advance.
What are the restroom and facility amenities on site?
King's Landing has restrooms, locker rentals, luggage storage at the office, and a small general store on-site. At the end of this tour, guests arrive at Wekiva Island, which has a café, craft beer and wine bar, and a boardwalk overlooking the river.
