Description

Swim Beneath Waterfalls, Swing Through the Jungle & Explore Hāna Your Way!

Your day begins in a private van as your guide charts a course along the legendary Road to Hana — one that bends to your pace and your interests rather than a fixed script. Early on, you'll pull off at a secluded, hidden beach where sea turtles bask right at the water's edge, a quiet moment before the road climbs into the rainforest.

From there, the day turns hands-on. Your guide leads you on foot along cliffside trails to a handful of hidden waterfalls, where you can wade in, float, or take an optional cliff jump into the pool below. A short hike into a bamboo forest opens onto a hidden swimming hole and a rope swing for the adventurous, while a gentler stroll along the paved paths of the Keanae Arboretum lets you walk among more than 150 tropical plant species at an easier pace. Every stop is optional — decide with your guide how much hiking, swimming, or simply sightseeing fits your day.

Past Keanae, warm banana bread awaits with VIP access that skips the line, and a stop at a small local farm brings a taste of fresh, raw chocolate (and a visit with a friendly resident pig). At Waianapanapa State Park, a trail leads out along the coastline past a lava tube and blowhole to the island's famous black sand beach — reservations and entrance fees are already taken care of. Lunch is a local favorite of huli huli chicken enjoyed oceanside, followed by more time in the sand and surf at the black sand beach, red sand beach, and Hamoa Beach before wrapping up in charming Hana town, where local farm stands sell fruit straight off the tree.

ADVENTURE PROVIDED BY Magic of Maui Experience

FAQs

I’m on the cruise ship, can I book the full-day Road to Hana tour on Monday?

Yes! We will drop you off at the ship by 4:30pm.

For nine years, The Magic of Maui Experience has welcomed cruise passengers on our tours without a single guest ever missing their ship. We understand how important it is for you to return on time, and we plan every detail with that in mind.

For your added peace of mind, we proudly offer the Magic of Maui Guarantee: in the unlikely event of an emergency that prevents you from re-boarding your cruise ship on time, we will arrange and cover the cost of flying you to your next port of call.

When you book with us, you can relax, enjoy your adventure, and feel confident knowing that your timely return is our priority.

I’m arriving by cruise ship, what happens if the ship can’t dock on the day of our tour?

We know that sometimes cruise schedules change unexpectedly. Here’s how we handle those situations.

If your ship is unable to dock in Maui or has to leave early due to rough seas, you will receive a full refund for your tour. Our standard cancellation policy allows for a full refund if you cancel at least 48 hours before your tour.

While we will certainly process your refund,  we also encourage you to inquire about availability to reschedule your tour for the following day.

If it’s raining, do you cancel the tour?

We do not cancel tours because of weather unless there is an island wide storm where there are road closures. Did you know Hana gets 115 inches of rain a year? That translates to frequent showers in this area which is what gives us our lush jungle and beautiful flowing waterfalls. That said, it is quite possible that we could encounter some rain. We have everything to keep you comfortable regardless of the weather conditions. Don’t worry, it’s not always rainy in Hana! We often encounter beautiful sunny days perfect for dipping in a waterfall and experiencing the beautiful beaches of the area. We will make sure you have fun regardless of the weather conditions.

I get motion sickness, will I still be able to enjoy this tour?

If you get motion sickness at all, even the slightest, we cannot recommend enough the “Less Drowsy Dramamine” or “Bonine” with the active ingredient Meclizine. These products can be found at any drugstore and most ABC convenience stores. We do not recommend the Original Dramamine as it can make you drowsy nor do we recommend the “Non-Drowsy Dramamine” as it simply doesn’t work for most people.

To win the game, take 1 the evening before and 1 in the morning upon waking up and you are golden! It’s been a life saver on many occasions. There are over 600 turns out there. The difference between having an amazing experience and suffering is not worth being unprepared. We’ve seen it so many times.

Will there be other guests on our tour or just us?

All of our tours are private and personalized for you.  Your tour will include whoever is in your group, and your lovely guide! We specialize in customizing the experience to your interests, making your tour personal and unique. This is unlike the bus tours that advertise as small group tours that make stops based on everyone else’s preferences. However, if you’d like to add others to YOUR group (friends, family, etc.), just let us know and we’ll make sure you’re all together when they book.

I’m a solo traveler, can I book a tour just for me?

Yes, absolutely! Our minimum booking price applies which is $674 per private tour plus taxes and fees. In this case, it would be a custom private tour with just you and the tour guide. You wont be grouped together with other guests. Our solo travelers love this very special rent-a-friend experience. If booking online, you’ll need to select “2.” Please add a note in the comment section to let us know you’re flying solo.

How does this full-day tour differ from the half-day tour?

The full-day tour continues all the way into Hana town and includes stops the half-day version doesn't reach, like Waianapanapa State Park's black sand beach and lava tube, the red sand beach, Hamoa Beach, and a huli huli chicken lunch. It's built for guests who want the complete Road to Hana experience in one day.

Is hiking part of this tour?

Yes. Beyond the driving, you'll hike cliffside trails to reach a handful of hidden waterfalls, walk into a bamboo forest to a secret swimming hole, and follow coastal trails at Waianapanapa past a lava tube and blowhole. An easier paved path through the Keanae Arboretum is also available if you'd rather take it slow. Your guide adjusts the mix of hiking and sightseeing to match what you're up for.

Can we jump off the waterfalls?

Some of the waterfalls on this route offer optional cliff jumps, and your guide can point you toward the ones that suit your comfort level. Jumping is always optional and guide-supervised.

Do we get to see Waianapanapa State Park's black sand beach?

Yes — the full-day tour includes a stop at Waianapanapa State Park, with the reservation and entrance fee already covered. You'll have the chance to explore a lava tube, check out the blowhole, and walk the coastal trails before reaching the black sand beach itself.

Cancellation Policy

Customers will receive a full refund with 48 hours' notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Refunds will be processed in the same method as the original payment. Cancellations or inquiries about cancelling must be made by calling. No-shows will be charged the full price.
