Description

Explore The Road to Hana & Bamboo Forest Trek!

Set off on a journey through Maui’s wild side as you explore lush rainforest, dramatic coastline, and breathtaking volcanic landscapes on this all-day Road to Hāna adventure. This experience takes you far beyond the typical tourist route—deep into bamboo forests, under towering waterfalls, across ancient lava fields, and into the heart of Haleakalā National Park. Every turn reveals something new: thundering surf, rare native plants, hidden swimming holes, or a sweeping canyon carved by centuries of wind and water.
Along the way, you’ll stop at exotic fruit stands, black sand beaches, historic villages, and mystical natural formations shaped by island legends. From the peaceful taro fields of Keanae to the rugged lava deserts of Kipahulu, this tour immerses you in Maui’s rich culture, geology, and ecological diversity. With expert guidance, incredible scenery, and countless stories woven throughout the day, this is the kind of adventure that stays with you long after you’ve left the island behind.
Whether you’re hiking through the iconic Bamboo Forest, standing beneath a 400-foot waterfall, or tasting handmade coconut treats in the jungle, you’ll experience the Road to Hāna the way few ever do—fully, deeply, and with the spirit of exploration at every stop.

FAQs

Is the Road to Hāna safe for people prone to motion sickness or fear of winding roads?

The Road to Hāna is famous for its beauty—and for its many curves. With more than 600 bends and dozens of one-lane bridges, it can be challenging for travelers who are sensitive to motion or uneasy on winding mountain roads. That said, it is safe, well-maintained, and driven at a slow, steady pace by experienced local guides who know the route intimately.

For those prone to motion sickness, we recommend taking preventive medication, sitting near a window for fresh air, and keeping your gaze on the horizon or scenery rather than inside the vehicle. Frequent stops for waterfalls, overlooks, and cultural sites also help break up the drive and make the journey more comfortable. Most guests find that the stunning scenery and frequent breaks outweigh the curvy sections, even if they’re usually prone to motion discomfort.

Is the 4-mile Bamboo Forest hike difficult?

The 4-mile Bamboo Forest hike is considered moderate, but its difficulty can vary depending on recent rainfall. The trail includes packed dirt, tree roots, muddy sections, and a few areas that may be slippery, especially after rain. While it isn’t a technical hike, it does require steady footing, a basic level of fitness, and the ability to navigate uneven terrain.

Along the way, you’ll walk through towering bamboo groves, cross streams, and pass multiple waterfalls—making the effort well worth it. Most healthy adults can complete the hike at a comfortable pace, and your guide will assist with pacing, footing tips, and route awareness. Sturdy walking or hiking shoes are strongly recommended, and guests with knee, balance, or mobility issues may find parts of the trail challenging.

Do you provide hotel transportation?

If you have a rental car please meet us at the Kahului Park & Ride. If you do not have a rental car, then we can include transportation for an additional flat rate fee of $175.00 + 4.167% Hawaii State Excise tax. This is the total cost, not a per person price. It includes the pick-up and return. I will also add time to the tour. The exact amount depends on how far your accommodation is from our office.

All Kahului, Paʻia or Haʻiku accommodations will receive complimentary transportation. Please contact us to make these special arrangements. A minimum notice of 48 hours prior is required to schedule.

What if we are NCL - Pride of America Cruise Ship passengers?

We offer complimentary port pick up for all tours. Carrying the necessary credentials allows us to enter the harbor and retrieve you right from the dock. We will greet you with a sign reading your name just outside the passenger terminal. There is no need to walk to another location or catch a shuttle. A little bit of VIP style!

Your ship is due to arrive on Sunday at 8am and will depart on Monday at 6pm. Your paperwork will say that you need to be back onboard two hours prior to the departure time, but the call time will be 5:30pm. Sunday can include any of our excursions. If you see a start time that is earlier than your ship's arrival please know that it can be modified to accommodate your debarkation.

Which vehicle is best for us?

For groups of 6 guests or less we like to use our 8-passenger Honda Odyssey minivan. It’s a very comfortable ride. Spacious yet small enough to allow for an intimate experience.

Its two rear sliding doors and low profile allow for easy loading and unloading. The windows in the very front and middle seats roll down for picture taking and all are tinted for sun protection.

Plus, the surround sound system is awesome – for the moments we play Hawaiian music.

We also have a 10-passenger & 15-passenger Ford Transit touring van. Both have lots of space and are very comfortable. There are large windows for viewing and a descended side step for easy loading and unloading. Plus, it’s elevated so it offers more to see from the car. They are also equipped with a microphone and surround sound system. This way, no matter where one is seated they can hear loud & clear.
