FAQs
Can I fly after diving?
Flying directly after scuba diving is incredibly dangerous and could result in a life-threatening illness called the Bends/Decompression Sickness. The Divers Alert Network (DAN) guidelines for flying after diving include:
- A single no-decompression dive, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000 ft (305 m) interval of 12 hours suggested.
- Multiple dives per day or multiple days of diving, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000ft (305m) interval of 18 hours is suggested.
- Dives requiring decompression stops are recommended to have longer than 18 hours.
Please discuss with your dive guide ahead of time what is suggested!
Can I go hiking after diving?
Any activity that brings you above 1000 ft (305 m) can trigger the Bends/Decompression Sickness. Please check your hike elevation to ensure that at no time you will be going up in elevation. If the hike does go to elevation, you must treat it like a preflight interval as listed above in the flying FAQ.
Do we need a boat to access snorkeling locations?
No. No boat is required to get to the beautiful reefs in Rincon.
Can I rent scuba gear without my certification?
You NEED to be certified in order to rent scuba gear and you will need to show proof of your certification when you pick up the gear. If you are PADI-certified, we can usually search your certification online with your name and date of birth but any other organizations should plan to bring their card with them.
What if the rental gear breaks while I am using it?
Missing or broken items will be charged the full replacement price.
How do you receive pictures from the camera rental? Is the camera safe to bring underwater?
The camera is a waterproof GoPro camera to rent. It comes with the pressure-proof dive case to capture your diving adventures! It can be used both snorkeling and diving!
There are 3 ways you can typically receive your pictures:
- Purchase the storage card in the camera for an additional cost.
- Upload the pictures to your own device for free.
- We can email them to your email for free. The internet is not always reliable, so please allow a couple of days for delivery. If you do not get them within a reasonable time, give us a call or email so we can check on the status.
What size tanks do you have, and do you rent Nitrox?
All tanks are aluminum 80 cu ft tanks and we do rent Nitrox to enriched-air certified divers but please call ahead of time with the mix you would like! Proof of enriched air diver certification is required.
Do I need to take a dive flag with me on my dives or can I get away with a safety sausage?
Dive flags are required.
Do you rent spearguns/pole spears?
We do rent a limited number of pole spears and even lobster snares. Acquaint yourself with the fishing laws of Puerto Rico prior to use.
Do you guys have swim floaties for kids?
We have snorkel vests that you can inflate and deflate. We also offer coast guard-approved life vests for tours and rentals. We stock infant to adult sizes.
Do you have a map of the dive sites that are in Puerto Rico? If not, where can I find it?
There isn’t a map of the dive sites of Puerto Rico. However, feel free to stop into the dive center and we’d be happy to give you information on the sites located in our area.
Do I need a wetsuit or skin?
Water temperature in Puerto Rico ranges from 78 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter months (December-March) to 84 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer months. Most divers get cold in the winter months and a wetsuit is recommended. At other times of the year, wetsuits are good for abrasion protection. Wetsuits, both shorties and full, are available for rental for an additional fee in sizes 3XS-3XL.
What is the best site for snorkeling?
Rincón has some awesome snorkeling sites, but our favorite is the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve.
What marine life can I see while snorkeling?
We often see the majority of the fishes named on any fish ID template, including, but not limited to, parrotfish, blue tangs, hogfish, squirrelfish, butterflyfish, and angelfish. We have the occasional stingray, tarpon, and turtle swim by checking you out. Look in the crevices for eels, crabs, and lobsters.
Can I wear glasses during snorkeling/diving?
The nature of the mask design does not allow you to wear your glasses. However, we do have a limited number of fixed lens masks that may suit your needs. These are available for use during your tour without charge or for an added fee for any rental. Inquire about them with a staff member.
What sunscreen can I wear and why is it important?
- The chemicals found in regular sunscreens are harmful to coral. Their tiny particles can be ingested, leading to toxicity and coral bleaching. Reef-friendly sunscreens avoid these toxic ingredients. Reef-SAFE sunscreens avoid harmful chemicals AND use ‘non-nano’ particles that are too large to be absorbed by corals, thus protecting marine ecosystems.
- PROTECT THE MARINE RESERVE: Avoid using sunscreens that contain oxybenzone, octinoxate, and parabens. Reef-Friendly sunscreen is available for purchase at the dive center.
- Sun protective clothing like long-sleeve rash guards are a great alternative to sunscreen and are available for purchase.
- If you’re looking at a mineral-based formula, be sure it says ‘non-nano’.
