Description
Guided Whitewater Rafting Trip on the Resurrection River – Seward, Alaska
If you're in Seward and want a genuine taste of Alaskan wilderness without a full-day commitment, this is it. The Resurrection River is right in your backyard — fed by the Resurrection Glacier and flowing through the Chugach National Forest before emptying into Resurrection Bay — and the 7–8 mile (11.3–12.9 km) guided raft trip down it is one of the best few hours you can spend in Southcentral Alaska.
This is Seward's classic whitewater float. The river runs Class II–III, which means you'll hit real rapids — splashy, exciting, and enough to get your heart going — but nothing that requires technical skill or prior experience. In between the whitewater, the river opens into beautiful mellow stretches where you can catch your breath, take in the mountain scenery, and scan the banks for wildlife. Bald eagles are a near-constant presence, and sightings of brown bears, moose, and salmon (in season) are all possible along this stretch.
Duration
- 3–4 hours on the water; approximately 4 hours total including transportation and gear setup
- Arrive 30 minutes early for check-in and gear fitting
- Tours run rain or shine
Location / Where to Meet
Courtesy pickup is available within approximately a 4-mile radius of the Seward office. This covers most hotels and B&Bs, private rentals, the Seward Small Boat Harbor, the Alaska Railroad Depot, and the Seward Cruise Ship Terminal. If you're staying outside this zone, the office is easily accessible with free parking available for all vehicle sizes including RVs.

FAQs
What class rapids are on the Resurrection River?
The Resurrection River runs Class II–III, with a mix of splashy, exciting rapids and calmer stretches in between. It's accessible to first-timers and families while still providing genuine excitement — fun and challenging without being extreme. Your guide will brief you on what to expect before you launch and will call out upcoming features as you go.
When does the Resurrection River rafting season run?
The rafting season on the Resurrection River typically runs from late spring through early fall. Summer (June–August) offers the most reliable conditions. Water levels and river character can vary throughout the season — your guide will always plan the route based on current conditions.
Do I need prior rafting experience?
No prior rafting experience is needed. This tour is accessible to all ages and experience levels. Your guide will walk you through paddling technique and safety before you get on the water and will be with you throughout the float.
Do I have to paddle?
Yes — this is a paddle raft, meaning everyone in the boat paddles together as a team under your guide's direction. It's easy to pick up and is a big part of what makes the experience fun.
What happens if I fall out of the raft?
Stay calm, keep your feet up and pointed downstream, and follow your guide's instructions. Your PFD will keep you afloat. Swim situations are covered in the pre-trip safety briefing, and your guide is trained in swift water rescue.
Do you have luggage storage?
Yes — secure luggage storage is available at the Seward office at no charge. This is particularly convenient for cruise ship passengers and travelers checking out of their lodging on the day of their tour.
What safety measures are in place for your tours?
All guides hold Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification and are trained in swift water safety and river-specific emergency protocols. Guides carry professional communication equipment and make all route decisions based on current river conditions.
What is your weather policy?
Tours run rain or shine. Alaska weather is part of the experience! If conditions require a trip to be cancelled by the operator for safety reasons, guests receive a full refund of booking payments made. Rescheduling is offered whenever possible, subject to availability.
