Description
Red Rocks & Dinosaur Ridge E-Bike Tour — Guided E-Bike Tour in Morrison, Colorado
Two of the most extraordinary geological formations in North America sit side by side in the foothills just outside Denver — and this guided tour connects both of them on a single, 16-mile (26 km) e-bike loop that most riders describe as one of the best outdoor experiences of their trip to Colorado.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre is one of the world's most iconic music venues, but it was a geological masterpiece long before anyone played a note there. Flanked by two 300-foot (91 m) sandstone monoliths that are 290 million years old, the amphitheatre sits at 6,450 feet (1,966 m) in Morrison's red rock canyon — and riding up to it on an e-bike, through the foothills and into the park, is something entirely different from driving there for a show. Just minutes away, Dinosaur Ridge is a National Natural Landmark where 335 dinosaur tracks from at least 78 individual dinosaurs are pressed into the stone of the hogback ridge — the same rock layer that gave the world its first discoveries of Allosaurus, Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, and Stegosaurus.
Your guide leads the full loop: out through Bear Creek Lake Park, into Morrison along the creek, up to Red Rocks and its staggering canyon views, over Dinosaur Ridge to inspect the fossil tracks up close, and back to the shop. The e-bikes handle the elevation changes throughout — including the climb into Red Rocks — so the tour is accessible to riders of all fitness levels who meet the physical requirements.

FAQs
Where does the tour go and what will we see?
The tour departs from the shop and heads immediately into Bear Creek Lake Park — one of Metro Denver's most underrated outdoor spaces, where deer, bobcats, and occasional moose have been spotted along the creek trails. After a 15-minute stop in the park, the route follows Bear Creek into Morrison, Colorado — a small Western town with a historic Main Street at the base of the canyon. From Morrison the group climbs into Red Rocks Park, arriving at the Amphitheatre itself for a 25-minute stop to take in the sandstone monoliths, the stage, the canyon views, and the geology. The route then continues to Dinosaur Ridge — a National Natural Landmark where 335 preserved dinosaur tracks from at least 78 individual animals are embedded in the hogback ridge, including tracks from species first discovered here in the 1870s. The guide leads a 30-minute stop with commentary on the fossils before the group rides back to the shop. Total distance is approximately 16 miles (26 km).
How difficult is the route? What is the terrain like?
The route is a mix of paved paths, bike paths, and some road riding through the foothills. The climb into Red Rocks is the most significant elevation gain on the tour — the e-bike makes it manageable for riders of all fitness levels, but Colorado's altitude of 5,700–6,450 ft (1,737–1,966 m) means you will feel the elevation, especially on uphills. The Dinosaur Ridge section involves a ridge crossing with some climbing. Multiple reviewers describe the overall effort level as moderate — "nothing too strenuous" — on e-bikes, while noting that the scenery more than compensates for the work.
How big can our group be?
Groups will have a maximum of 10 guests.
Is this tour suitable for someone who has never ridden an e-bike?
Yes, as long as you can ride a standard bicycle confidently. Your guide will walk everyone through the controls and give time to get comfortable on the bike before the group sets off. Multiple reviewers note this as their first e-bike experience with great results.
Will altitude affect me?
Possibly. The tour sits at 5,700–6,450 feet (1,737–1,966 m) above sea level — noticeably higher than Denver. If you're coming from sea level, allow a day to acclimate before the tour if possible. Stay well hydrated, and let your guide know if you're feeling the altitude during the ride.
What is a Pedego electric bike and how does it work?
Pedego electric bikes use a pedal-assist system — as you pedal, the motor kicks in to amplify your effort. You can dial the assist level up or down depending on how much of a workout you want. Most Pedego models also have a throttle, which propels the bike forward without pedaling. The motor doesn't do all the work; you still pedal, but hills that would stop a regular bike in its tracks become manageable. At altitude in Colorado's Front Range foothills, that assistance is more than welcome.
How far can I go on a single charge?
Most Pedego bikes are rated for 20–60 miles (32–97 km) per charge. The Red Rocks and Dinosaur Ridge tour covers approximately 16 miles (26 km) — well within range. For daily rentals, the Bear Creek Lake Park trail system is also comfortably within battery range for a full day of riding.
Do I need experience riding a bicycle to use an e-bike?
You should be comfortable riding a standard bicycle. The pedal-assist adds speed and power, making basic bike-handling skills important. Staff will walk you through the controls before you head out. For the guided tour, you must be able to safely ride a bike upon arrival — those deemed unsafe to ride will not be able to participate.
Are helmets required?
Yes — helmets are included with every rental and tour and are required for all riders.
Do I need to be a strong cyclist?
The e-bike takes the edge off the elevation — riders of all fitness levels have completed the tour and rental routes here. That said, the terrain around Morrison involves real hills and the altitude (around 5,700–6,450 ft / 1,737–1,966 m) adds some challenge. At least a moderate level of physical fitness is recommended.
What is the weather policy?
Colorado's Front Range weather can change quickly, especially in spring and fall. Tours and rentals generally go forward in light weather; severe weather, lightning, and dangerous conditions may result in rescheduling. Contact the shop directly if conditions look concerning on your day.
Is parking available at the shop?
Yes — free parking is available in front of the shop at 4285 S Eldridge St. Take the Quincy exit from C-470; the store is to the right of Home Depot.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes — booking in advance is strongly recommended for both tours and rentals. The Red Rocks and Dinosaur Ridge tour is a private experience with limited availability; popular dates fill up quickly. Book as early as possible, especially during peak season (May through October).
What time does the shop open and close?
The daily rental window is 10:00 AM–5:00 PM. Confirm full shop hours in FareHarbor.
