Description

Experience Puerto Rico’s Local Scene Outside El Yunque!

Escape the crowds and dive into Puerto Rico’s wild side on this action-packed rainforest and beach adventure. Instead of heading into the official El Yunque National Forest, this tour takes you to less touristy local spots on the rainforest’s outskirts — places where locals go to slide down natural rock formations, leap into crystal-clear pools, and swing from ropes under a lush jungle canopy.
Your day kicks off with a scenic one-hour drive along the island’s northeast coast. As you cruise through the countryside, your guide shares stories about Puerto Rico’s history, culture, and geography, setting the stage for the adventure ahead. The first stop is a privately owned natural playground, where volcanic rock formations, a small waterfall, and refreshing swimming holes invite you to explore. Two natural rock waterslides — one beginner-friendly and one for thrill-seekers — promise plenty of laughs and adrenaline as you splash into the pools below.
Next, you’ll take a short guided hike through a lush rainforest trail to reach a serene freshwater river pool, framed by towering trees and vibrant greenery. Here, you can launch yourself from a rope swing, float in the calm waters, or simply relax along the riverbank and take in the scenery. After working up an appetite, you’ll stop at an authentic local restaurant for lunch (not included), where you can savor Puerto Rican flavors. To finish the day, unwind at Luquillo Beach, a local favorite known for its gentle waves, golden sands, and laid-back vibe — the perfect way to end your rainforest adventure.
*This tour does not officially enter El Yunque National Forest. It stays on the outskirts.*

FAQs

Does this tour enter the official El Yunque forest?

This tour does not enter the official El Yunque National Forest boundaries.

Instead, the tour usually takes place in the foothills and surrounding rainforest areas outside the official park, often in smaller, private or locally managed trails and river systems. This allows for a more secluded, less crowded experience with swimming in natural pools, river wading, and waterfalls without the strict regulations and crowds of the main park.

Guests still experience the lush rainforest ecosystem, tropical wildlife, and freshwater streams, so it feels very much like El Yunque, but technically it’s not inside the National Forest itself.

How difficult is the hike and river trek?

This adventure is considered moderate in difficulty. The tour combines rainforest trails with shallow river treks, which require some balance and agility. You’ll navigate rocky paths, stream crossings, and a few gentle inclines. No technical climbing is required, but a moderate level of fitness is recommended. The guides are experienced locals who provide assistance, making it accessible to most people who are comfortable with outdoor walking and water activities.

Will we get wet during the tour?

Yes! This is a rainforest swimming and beach adventure, so water is a big part of the experience. You’ll wade through rivers, swim in natural pools beneath waterfalls, and enjoy the ocean at a secluded beach. Waterproof gear or a change of clothes is recommended. Many guests find the water portions refreshing, especially in Puerto Rico’s warm climate, and it’s part of what makes this tour so memorable.

Do I need to know how to swim?

While you don’t need to be an expert swimmer, you should be comfortable in water. Life jackets are available upon request, and your guide will be with you throughout the river portions.

Cancellation Policy

A full refund will be offered If you cancel with more than 48 hours in advance of the start time of the tour, less any transaction costs or credit card fees). No refund will be offered for cancelations 48 hours or less in advance.
