FAQs
I've never paddleboarded before — can I still join?
Absolutely. No prior experience is needed, and you don't need to be super fit. SUP is one of the most beginner-friendly water sports available. Stand up paddleboards are wide and stable, and your guide will walk you through everything from shore before you ever get on the water.
What is the water like at Kalama Park in Kihei?
The south shore of Maui is well-known for its calm, protected waters — particularly in the mornings. Kalama Park is an excellent beginner location with flat water close to shore, gentle surf, and a beautiful reef to explore. The trade winds are typically lighter in the morning, making your session more comfortable and manageable.
Will I stand up on my first lesson?
Most students do get to their feet during their first lesson, though every person progresses at their own pace. Your guide will work with you at whatever speed feels right, and there's no pressure to stand if you'd prefer to paddle from a seated or kneeling position.
What is the best time of year for SUP on Maui's south shore?
SUP is available year-round in Kihei thanks to Maui's consistently warm water and reliable trade winds. Winter months (November–March) can bring slightly larger south swells, while summer tends to be the calmest. Morning sessions are typically best regardless of season.
