Description
Private Wingfoil Lessons – Learn to Wingfoil in the Columbia River Gorge
Experience wing foiling with a private, one-on-one lesson in Hood River, Oregon. This lesson is designed for first-timers and provides an approachable introduction to one of the most exciting new wind sports. You’ll begin on land, learning how to handle the wing, understand wind dynamics, and practice basic maneuvers. Once comfortable, we’ll take your skills to the water, teaching proper stance, board handling, and how to use the wing effectively to glide across the river.
During your lesson, you’ll use lightweight handheld wings and modified SUP boards with dagger fins, which are wide and stable to give you the easiest possible start. This progression allows you to build confidence before eventually moving onto a foil board, usually by your second or third lesson. If you’ve taken lessons before, your instructor will assess your current skill level and pick up right where you left off, tailoring the session to your experience.
Private wingfoil lessons are perfect for anyone curious about wind sports, from beginners to those looking to refine their technique. The calm yet windy waters near The Hook make Hood River an ideal location to learn this exciting sport while taking in stunning Gorge scenery.

FAQs
Do I need prior wingfoiling experience?
No experience is required for beginners. Our lessons are fully customized to your skill level, whether it’s your first time winging, you’ve tried it a few times, or you want to improve and expand your existing skills.
What type of equipment will I use?
Beginners start with lightweight handheld wings and modified SUP boards with dagger fins for stability. More advanced progression may include foil boards on your second or third lesson.
Where do lessons take place?
Lessons take place at the Hood River Hook. The Hook is a popular and sheltered spot in the Columbia River Gorge, making it perfect for beginners. Its calm, protected waters allow you to safely practice handling the wing and balancing on the board, giving you access to enough wind to learn the basics of foiling without venturing into the main channel of the Columbia. Plus, the scenic Gorge surroundings make it an inspiring place to start your wingfoil journey.
What if the weather isn’t ideal?
Lessons run in most conditions, but extremely high winds, lightning, or unsafe water conditions may require rescheduling. Your instructor will communicate any changes in advance.
Can children take lessons?
Yes, but we recommend participants are comfortable in the water. Lessons are one-on-one, so younger guests should be assessed individually for readiness.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. Private lessons are scheduled by appointment to ensure one-on-one instruction, so we recommend booking early, especially during peak summer months.
