Description

Wild Waterfalls 1.0 - Private Waterfall Hike – Beginner-Friendly

You'll hear it before you see it — a low rush of water that gets louder with every bend in the trail, until the trees clear and there it is, tumbling over rock in the middle of the forest. This is a short, easy trail built for exactly that kind of payoff, whether it's your first hike ever or your first with a toddler in tow.

Your guide keeps the pace relaxed and the group engaged, pointing out insects, animal tracks, and wildlife along the way to keep younger hikers curious and moving. Adults get real explanations of the area's geology and water features, not just a walk — and everyone gets a front-row seat to the falls once you arrive. It's a short distance with a big payoff, and a genuinely easy way to experience the park on foot for the first time.

  1. Total trip length: approximately 5.5 hours, including check-in, the drive to the trailhead, breaks, and hiking time

FAQs

What is this hike about?

This is a short, easy hike to a waterfall, built for first-time hikers, young kids, and anyone who wants a manageable trail with a rewarding payoff. Your guide keeps things engaging along the way with wildlife-spotting and bug-hunting for younger hikers, while sharing the geology and history behind the area's water features.

Which waterfall will we visit?

Your guide selects the destination for your trip based on trail conditions, weather, and your group's pace and interests at the time of booking.

How long is the actual hiking distance?

This is one of the shorter trail options, designed to be manageable for young children, older adults, and first-time hikers within the overall trip time.

Will we see wildlife on this hike?

Sightings aren't guaranteed, but the trails leading to the falls are good habitat for elk, marmots, pikas, and bighorn sheep, and your guide will be watching for wildlife throughout the trip.

What can I expect to see and do on a guided hike?

Beyond the hiking itself, your guide shares knowledge of the local history, geology, flowers, and trees, and keeps an eye out for wildlife along the way. If animals are spotted while driving and it's safe to stop, your guide will pull over so the group can observe from a safe distance. Elk, mule deer, marmots, pikas, and bighorn sheep are commonly seen, with moose and other wildlife possible as well.

Are your guides certified?

Yes. Guides are professional, trained, and Wilderness First Aid/CPR-certified.

How big are the groups, and will I be with strangers?

Every trip is a private, custom trip booked exclusively for your party — you won't be combined with other travelers. Group sizes run from 1 to 9 people, based on Rocky Mountain National Park's group-size regulations for a single certified guide.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, advance booking is recommended, especially during the busy summer season, to ensure guide and date availability.

Do I need a park pass?

You'll need a valid park pass or to pay the park entrance fee, but since you're on a guided trip, a timed-entry permit is not required — your guide handles that reservation for your group. Credit or debit is required at the park entrance; cash is not accepted.
