Description

Discover the Quiet, Forested Side of Maui!

Most visitors come to Maui for its beaches and waterfalls, but high on the slopes of the island lies a completely different landscape waiting to be explored. This private Upcountry hiking experience takes you into Maui's cool mountain forests, where towering Monterey cypress, eucalyptus groves, and native Hawaiian vegetation create a peaceful setting far removed from the island's busy coastline.

As you follow quiet forest trails, you'll make your way toward a natural mountain spring where fresh water flows through ancient lava rock, a reminder of the volcanic forces that shaped Maui thousands of years ago. Along the route, you'll pass through a protected bird habitat where native Hawaiian forest birds such as the colorful ʻApapane, ʻAmakihi, and the brilliant scarlet ʻIʻiwi are sometimes seen moving through the trees. The sounds of birdsong, rustling leaves, and cool mountain breezes create a side of Maui that many visitors never realize exists.

Throughout the hike, your private guide shares stories about Maui's geology, native ecosystems, conservation efforts, and agricultural history, bringing the landscape to life while tailoring the pace to your group. The trail combines easy forest walking with a few steeper sections, rewarding hikers with beautiful scenery, fresh mountain air, and a deeper appreciation for one of Maui's hidden natural treasures.
