FAQs
What makes a guided sunset tour special?
Sunset in the desert is about more than just watching the sun go down—it’s about being in the right place at the right time. Your guide plans the timing, location, and pacing so you arrive exactly when the light is at its best. We take the guesswork out and create a relaxed, memorable experience you wouldn’t easily replicate on your own.
How much hiking is involved?
It’s completely up to you. We can keep things very relaxed with short walks to scenic viewpoints, or include a longer hike to reach a more iconic or secluded sunset location. Most tours involve anywhere from no hiking to about 3 miles total.
Will we have enough time to enjoy the sunset, or will it feel rushed?
We plan the entire experience around the sunset. That means arriving early enough to settle in, take photos, and enjoy the changing light without feeling rushed. After sunset, we’ll take our time heading back, often enjoying the afterglow as the landscape continues to shift in color.
What is the lighting like for photos?
Sunset offers some of the best lighting of the day, with warm tones, long shadows, and dramatic color changes. Your guide can help position you for great photo opportunities and suggest timing for capturing the best light.
What happens after the sun sets?
The experience doesn’t end the moment the sun dips below the horizon. The “afterglow” can be just as beautiful, with soft light and deepening colors. Depending on the location, we may linger a bit before heading back under twilight skies.
Will it be crowded?
It depends on the location. Some sunset spots are popular, especially iconic viewpoints. However, since your tour is private, we can choose locations and timing that help avoid crowds when possible. Just let us know your preference—iconic views or quieter, more secluded settings.
What should I expect temperature-wise?
Temperatures can drop quickly after sunset, especially in spring and fall. Even if it’s warm during the day, it can feel cool once the sun goes down. Bringing an extra layer is always a good idea.
Where do sunset tours take place in Canyonlands?
Most sunset tours take place in the Island in the Sky district, where short walks lead to dramatic overlooks high above the canyons. These viewpoints provide expansive, unobstructed views—perfect for watching the light change across the landscape.
How is sunset different in Canyonlands compared to Arches?
Canyonlands is all about scale and depth. Instead of focusing on individual formations, you’ll be looking out over vast canyon systems as shadows stretch and colors shift across the landscape. It’s a quieter, more expansive experience.
Is there much hiking involved in Canyonlands?
Typically less than Arches. Most viewpoints are accessed via short walks, making Canyonlands a great option if you want a more relaxed sunset experience with minimal hiking.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation Policy
Groups of less than 10 people: All of your money will be refunded if you cancel prior to two weeks before your trip date. If you cancel within two weeks of your trip, but outside of 48 hours, you’ll be charged a $20/person deposit. Cancellations made within 48 hours of your trip will not be refunded.
Groups of 10 or more people: A 10% deposit is required at the time of booking. This is non-refundable, unless our guides cancel due to weather. The remaining balance is due within 48 hours of the trip date.
Late Arrivals: Although our tours are private, and we will accommodate late arrivals as we can, occasionally a late arrival can cause tours later in the day and/or shuttle logistics to be affected. Because of this, we reserve the right to cancel your tour if you arrive more than 30 minutes after your scheduled reservation time. If a tour is canceled because of a late arrival, a refund will not be issued.
Weather: Full refunds are given if your guide cancels your trip due to bad weather. Our guides will make the final "go/no go" decision based on the safety of your group. If you decide to cancel because of uncomfortable weather, our standard cancellation policy will apply.
Travel Insurance: If you believe there is a chance that you will have to cancel your tour within the non-refundable 24-hour cancellation period, we strongly encourage you to purchase travel insurance. We are not affiliated with any insurance companies, but can recommend www.travelexinsurance.com.
