Description
Summit Fever Guided Hike - Private Mountain Summit Hike for Intermediate/Advanced Hikers
The last stretch is always the hardest — legs heavy, breath short, the trail narrowing as the terrain opens up around you. Then the ground drops away on every side and there's nothing left above you but sky. Reaching a summit does something that no scenic overlook quite matches: a 360-degree view earned one step at a time, with the whole park spread out below.
Getting there is its own experience. Your guide leads the way up through changing terrain, from forest into subalpine meadows and finally onto open alpine slopes, pointing out wildflowers, wildlife, and the geology and history behind the peak along the way. There's no shortage of photo opportunities on the way up, but the top is where it all comes together — the kind of view, and the kind of accomplishment, that stays with you long after the hike is over.
Duration
- Total trip length: approximately 8 hours, including check-in, the drive to the trailhead, breaks, and hiking time
Location / Where to Meet
- Guests are picked up directly for groups of fewer than 4 — pickup location entered at checkout, must be within Estes Park
- For groups of 4 or more, your guide establishes a meeting point in Estes Park or at the trailhead instead
- Exact trailhead and summit destination are selected by your guide based on trip length, weather, group ability, and current trail conditions

FAQs
What is this hike about?
This hike is built around reaching a mountain summit, with your guide leading the way through changing terrain — forest, subalpine meadows, and open alpine slopes — before a final push to the top for sweeping, 360-degree views.
Which peak will we summit?
Your guide will work with you to select the destination for your trip based on trail conditions, weather, and your group's pace and ability at the time of booking.
How difficult is this hike?
This is rated an intermediate-to-advanced hike, with significant elevation gain and a full day of sustained mountain hiking. It's best suited to hikers who are comfortable with a strenuous effort and some exposure near the summit.
What happens if the weather turns before we reach the top?
Mountain weather can change quickly, especially near a summit, and your guide continually assesses conditions throughout the climb. Safety comes first, and your guide may adjust the route, pace, or turnaround point as needed.
Will we see wildlife or wildflowers along the way?
Sightings aren't guaranteed, but the terrain leading up to the summit is good habitat for elk, marmots, pikas, and bighorn sheep, with wildflowers common in the subalpine meadows earlier in the route.
What can I expect to see and do on a guided hike?
Beyond the hiking itself, your guide shares knowledge of the local history, geology, flowers, and trees, and keeps an eye out for wildlife along the way. If animals are spotted while driving and it's safe to stop, your guide will pull over so the group can observe from a safe distance. Elk, mule deer, marmots, pikas, and bighorn sheep are commonly seen, with moose and other wildlife possible as well.
Are your guides certified?
Yes. Guides are professional, trained, and Wilderness First Aid/CPR-certified.
How big are the groups, and will I be with strangers?
Every trip is a private, custom trip booked exclusively for your party — you won't be combined with other travelers. Group sizes run from 1 to 9 people, based on Rocky Mountain National Park's group-size regulations for a single certified guide.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes, advance booking is recommended, especially during the busy summer season, to ensure guide and date availability.
Do I need a park pass?
You'll need a valid park pass or to pay the park entrance fee, but since you're on a guided trip, a timed-entry permit is not required — your guide handles that reservation for your group. Credit or debit is required at the park entrance; cash is not accepted.
