Description

Private Guided Bike Tour in Napa Valley

Napa Valley by bike, for your group alone. The Private Guided Bike Tour gives your group exclusive time with a knowledgeable local guide, tailored winery selections, and a fully customized route through the valley. Whether you are celebrating a milestone, planning a corporate outing, or simply want the full wine country biking experience without sharing it with strangers — this is how you do it properly.

Departing from the Yountville shop directly along the Vine Trail, your guide leads the ride at your group's pace, sharing the history and character of the valley while steering you toward smaller, boutique producers with the kind of access that public tours cannot offer. Route, winery stops, pace, and time frame are all tailored to your group — including the option to start or finish from your hotel, depending on location. Most routes are designed for casual riders, averaging 3 to 6 miles (5–10 km) between stops and covering 12 to 17 miles (19–27 km) total, though your tour planner will adapt to whatever your group needs.
You'll have the option to enjoy a Bouchon Bakery picnic served in the vineyard with a seasonal spread of artisanal sandwiches, Kettle Chips, and petite desserts, delivered to a winery or park by the on-call van support team. If your group would prefer to skip the winery visits and take a purely scenic ride through the valley, that option is available too. The tour is completely yours to shape: tell your planner which wineries you're hoping to visit, and they'll arrange tastings in advance; or ask for recommendations and let the guide take it from there. Either way, winery tasting appointments are made ahead of time so you can simply arrive, ride, and enjoy — no waiting, no crowds.

Duration

You Choose!

  1. ~4 Hours for 1 winery visit & picnic lunch
  2. ~6 hours for 2 winery visits & picnic lunch

Location / Where to Meet

Meet your guide at the Yountville shop location:

6500 Washington Street, Yountville, CA 94599 Open in Google Maps

The shop is set back from the street, tucked between Ranch Market & Bistro Jeanty — look for the blue-and-white striped awning. Open daily 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day).

Drive times to Yountville:

  • From Downtown Napa: 15 minutes
  • From St. Helena: 15 minutes
  • From Sonoma: 30 minutes
  • From San Francisco: 75 minutes (avoid Friday afternoons — Bay Area weekend traffic can add significant time)

  1. Ages 21 and older.
  2. Guests are expected to taste responsibly
  3. No prior e-biking experience required; the route is designed for casual riders of all fitness levels
  4. Must be confident riding a regular bicycle

What to Bring / Wear

Think "smart active" — like you'd dress for a round of golf. Recommended: warm layers for cool mornings, shorts or capris, slim or tapered-leg pants, flat-soled shoes or securely strapped sandals, and sunglasses. Not recommended: denim (uncomfortable seams), wide-leg pants or maxi dresses (can catch in the chain or spokes), wedge heels, flip flops, or mules. The wineries don't have formal dress codes, but smart-casual attire fits in best. We recommend:
  • Smart casual clothing — slim-fitted pants, flat shoes, comfortable layers
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a water bottle
  • Layers — mornings in Napa can be cool; pack something easy to remove mid-ride
  1. Shorts, capris, or slim/tapered-leg pants — avoid wide-leg trousers, maxi skirts, or denim (heavy seams and loose fabric can catch in spokes or chains)
  2. Flat-soled shoes or securely strapped sandals — no flip flops, wedges, or mules
  3. Credit card or cash for wine tasting fees and any winery purchases
  4. Small bag or daypack for personal items
  5. Camera or phone for photos
  6. Government-issued ID confirming age 21+

FAQs

How does the private tour differ from the group tours?

The private tour is exclusively for your group with no other guests. The route, pace, and winery selections can be tailored to your interests, making it ideal for celebrations, corporate events, bachelorette parties, and any group wanting a more personalized experience.

What winery visits are included?

Winery visits are selected in consultation with your group. The guide typically takes private tours to smaller, boutique wineries with behind-the-scenes access that regular visitors rarely experience. Wine tasting fees are not included in the tour price.

Can we bring kids on a private tour?

The wine-focused nature of the tour means it is designed for adults 21 and older. Exceptions can occasionally be made for family groups who are not participating in wine tasting. We're happy to arrange a tour that doesn't visit wineries to accommodate kids.

What type of bike is included, and should I upgrade to an e-bike?

The base price includes Comfort Cruiser bikes — classic, upright, easy-to-ride bikes with wide seats and a relaxed riding position. For most groups, we strongly recommend upgrading to pedal-assist e-bikes (+$40 per bike). The e-bikes open up more of the valley, make longer distances and any gentle hills effortless, and mean no one in your group will feel left behind. If your group has a range of fitness levels, the e-bike upgrade is especially worthwhile.

Can we choose which wineries we visit?

Absolutely — winery selection is entirely up to your group. If you have specific producers in mind, let your tour planner know and they'll arrange appointments in advance. If you'd like recommendations, your guide has a deep knowledge of the valley and specializes in steering groups toward smaller, off-the-beaten-path wineries that most visitors never find. Either way, all tasting appointments are confirmed before your tour date so you can focus on enjoying the day.

Can we skip the wineries and just do a scenic ride?

Yes — if your group would prefer a purely scenic experience focused on the landscape and the valley's history without winery stops, that option is available. Let your tour planner know and they'll design a route accordingly.

How far in advance should we book a private tour?

Private tours require advance planning — the earlier you book, the more flexibility you'll have for winery selection and scheduling. For peak season dates (May–October) and weekend slots, booking at least several weeks ahead is recommended. After booking, you'll receive a short questionnaire to help the team understand your group's vision before planning begins.

What is the maximum group size for a private tour?

Private tours are available for groups of up to 200 guests. For groups of 13 or more, a custom quote is required

Can the tour start from our hotel?

In some cases, yes — depending on your hotel's location, it may be possible to arrange a tour that starts and/or finishes there rather than at the Yountville shop. Discuss this option with your tour planner after booking.

Is a 20% service charge included in the per-person pricing?

Yes — a 20% service charge is added to all private group bookings. This is separate from gratuity, which remains at your discretion.

Cancellation Policy

7+ days prior to scheduled tour: Full refund, less $150 cancellation fee; within 6 days and with a minimum 24 hours notice prior to scheduled tour start: Deposit is non-refundable, but may be applied towards a rescheduled event within one year.

Cancellations are not accepted within 24 hours of scheduled tour launch; client will be responsible for tour charges in full, including any tasting fees/penalties imposed by the wineries.

Rain Contingency: At 24 hours prior to scheduled "Meet Time" if hourly rain forecast during the hours of the planned tour is 50% or greater, client has the right to reschedule for another date without penalty and/or cancel for full deposit refund.
