Description
Private Guided Bike Tour of Golden Gate Park, San Francisco
Golden Gate Park rewards the curious — 1,017 acres (411 hectares) packed with Victorian glasshouses, world-class museums, hidden gardens, ocean views, and a real bison herd. A private tour of the park puts a dedicated guide entirely at your group's disposal, free to slow down at whatever catches your eye without any pressure to keep up with strangers.
Starting in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood — birthplace of the Summer of Love — the route winds through the park's highlights: the Conservatory of Flowers, the Shakespeare Garden, the Rose Garden, and the AIDS Memorial Grove, past the California Academy of Sciences and the de Young Museum, and out to Ocean Beach where the city's edge meets the Pacific. The return leg passes the Bison Paddock, Spreckels Lake, and the Sutro Overlook for sweeping views of Lands End and the old Cliff House before heading back to where you started.
At 6 miles (9.7 km) on largely flat paths, this is one of the most accessible and family-friendly rides in the lineup — unhurried, visually rich, and easy enough for first-time riders and young children alike.
Both standard and electric (pedal-assist) bikes are available as an upgrade. The park is largely flat, so e-bikes are optional but always a comfortable choice.

FAQs
What makes this different from the public group tour?
On a private tour, your guide is exclusively dedicated to your group — no other guests join. You can set the pace, linger at the Conservatory or Ocean Beach as long as you like, and ask as many questions as you want without holding anyone up. Start times are also flexible, so you can plan the tour around the rest of your day.
How many people can join a private tour?
Private tours accommodate up to 10 guests, with a little flexibility for slightly larger groups — contact the shop to discuss if your group is larger.
Can I choose my start time?
Yes — private tours are available with flexible start times from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM daily. The 9:30–10:30 AM window is blocked. If you need a start time outside the standard range, call the shop directly to arrange.
Where does this tour go and what will I see?
The tour starts in Haight-Ashbury and heads into Golden Gate Park, covering the Conservatory of Flowers, the Shakespeare Garden, Rose Garden, and AIDS Memorial Grove, then past the California Academy of Sciences and the de Young Museum. From there you'll ride out to Ocean Beach for sweeping Pacific views before looping back through the Bison Paddock, Spreckels Lake, and the Sutro Overlook. The tour ends back at the Haight-Ashbury starting point.
How far is the tour and is it difficult?
The guided route is 6 miles (9.7 km). Golden Gate Park is largely flat with gentle paths, making this the most accessible ride in the lineup — well suited for families, first-time riders, or anyone who prefers a more leisurely, exploratory pace.
Does this tour go to the Golden Gate Bridge?
The Golden Gate Bridge is not in Golden Gate Park — it's a cross-town ride along the coast. However, with your bonus all-day rental after the tour, you can absolutely ride there on your own. Your guide can recommend the best route from the park to the bridge.
Will the tour run in the rain?
Yes — tours operate rain or shine unless there are dangerous weather conditions. San Francisco's famously moody weather rarely reaches the point of cancellation; if it does, you will be notified up to 30 minutes before departure. Ponchos are available for purchase at the shop if needed.
