Description
Private Guided Bike Tour from Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito
The iconic route — Fisherman's Wharf to the Golden Gate Bridge and down into sunny Sausalito — but with one key difference: the guide is all yours. No waiting for other guests, no sharing photo stops, no adjusting to a stranger's pace. A private guide leads just your group from start to finish, at a schedule that fits your day.
The route follows the waterfront past sea lions, Crissy Field, and Fort Point to the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge, then across the span 220 feet (67 m) above the bay with views of the city skyline, Alcatraz, Angel Island, and the Marin headlands. After a long, satisfying coast downhill into Sausalito, your group has the rest of the afternoon free to explore the waterfront village before hopping the ferry back to Fisherman's Wharf.
Private tours are a natural fit for families traveling with young children, groups with varying fitness levels, milestone celebrations, corporate outings, or anyone who simply wants the experience on their own terms.
BONUS BIKE RENTAL: When the guided portion ends in Sausalito, you keep the bikes for the rest of the day — no extra charge. Bikes must be returned by closing time (hours vary by season — confirm at check-in).
Both standard and electric (pedal-assist) bikes are available. E-bikes are available as an upgrade and are highly recommended for riders who don't cycle regularly.

FAQs
What makes this different from the public group tour?
On a private tour, your guide is exclusively dedicated to your group — no other guests join. You can set the pace, linger at viewpoints as long as you like, and ask as many questions as you want without holding anyone up. Start times are also flexible, so you can plan the tour around the rest of your day rather than working around a fixed schedule.
How many people can join a private tour?
Private tours accommodate up to 10 guests, with a little flexibility for slightly larger groups — contact the shop to discuss if your group is larger.
Can I choose my start time?
Yes — private tours are available with flexible start times from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM daily. The 9:30–10:30 AM window is blocked. If you need a start time outside the standard range, call the shop directly to arrange.
Where does this tour go and what will I see?
The tour begins at Fisherman's Wharf and follows the waterfront through some of San Francisco's most beautiful and historically rich stretches. You'll pass sea lions at the piers, the wind organs along the shoreline, the restored wetlands at Crissy Field, and the old Civil War-era military fort at Fort Point — with some of the best close-up views of the bridge's south tower you'll find anywhere. After crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, you coast 2 miles (3.2 km) downhill into Sausalito, where the tour ends and your free time begins.
How far is the tour and is it difficult?
The guided route is 8 miles (12.9 km) one way. The terrain is mostly flat to gently rolling along the waterfront, with two notable uphill sections before the bridge. These are manageable for most casual riders, and entirely easy on an e-bike. The tour is rated beginner to intermediate and has been completed comfortably by guests ranging from young children to riders in their late 60s and beyond.
How do I get back to San Francisco after the tour ends in Sausalito?
Most guests take the Sausalito–Fisherman's Wharf ferry, which carries bikes on board and runs multiple times daily (schedule varies seasonally). The ferry ride itself is a highlight — you get a stunning view of the city skyline, the bridge, and Alcatraz from the water. Ferry tickets can be purchased at the shop before you leave, online, or on the boat. Note: purchase tickets through the app or on the boat rather than at the kiosk to avoid any ticketing confusion.
Alternatively, you can ride back the same way you came — though note that the 2-mile (3.2 km) descent into Sausalito from the bridge is a climb on the return.
Can I leave my bike in Sausalito after the tour?
Yes — there is a paid bike drop-off station in Sausalito. You'll need a phone to call the shop when you're ready to drop off. Ask your guide or a staff member at check-in for the location and current fee. This is not bookable in advance.
Will the tour run in the rain?
Yes — tours operate rain or shine unless there are dangerous weather conditions. San Francisco's famously moody weather rarely reaches the point of cancellation; if it does, you will be notified up to 30 minutes before departure. Ponchos are available for purchase at the shop.
