This private kayak tour includes door-to-door transportation from your Las Vegas hotel to Willow Beach Marina, where you’ll meet your guide for a customized day on the water. After a short introduction and safety briefing, you’ll begin paddling along the Colorado River through the Black Canyon—one of the most scenic stretches of river in the Southwest.

Your private guide will set a relaxed pace and tailor the route to your interests, whether that’s taking more time for photos, learning paddling techniques, or exploring hidden side coves. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to stop at small beaches or simply float and take in the scenery. The cool river water and the canyon’s shade make it a comfortable experience, even in summer months.

A highlight of the tour is reaching Emerald Cove, where the light reflecting off the canyon walls turns the water a deep emerald hue. With flexible timing and a dedicated guide, this trip is well-suited for families, couples, or small groups looking for a quieter, more personal way to experience the Colorado River.

What is the usual water temperature of Lake Mead?

Water temperatures can range from the low 50s in the winter to the low 80s during the summer months. Wind can sometimes turn this glassy water into 4- to 6-foot swells with very choppy conditions.

What if the weather gets bad?

We’ll always keep you informed on the weather in the event we need to cancel due to the conditions.

Do I need to have paddling skills to join?

No previous kayaking experience is needed. The Emerald Cove tours take place on calm, slow-moving water, and your guide will provide a short safety talk and paddling instruction before launching. The trip moves at an easy pace with plenty of breaks, making it suitable for beginners or anyone who hasn’t paddled before. If you’re comfortable being on the water and can follow basic instructions, you’ll do great.

Cancellation Policy

To cancel a tour, you must notify River Dogz at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled shuttle pick-up time or tour meet-up time (if providing your own transportation). This notification should be sent by replying to your confirmation email with a cancellation request.
  1. Standard Tours: If cancelled 48 hours in advance, the tour amount will be refunded, less a $40 per person, per tour fee. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the tour start time are non-refundable.
  2. Custom, Group (10+ participants), and Promotional Tours: These bookings are non-refundable once confirmed.
  3. Hoover Dam Tour: A cancellation or rescheduling fee of $65 applies to our Hoover Dam Tour due to non-refundable and non-changeable permit purchases with the park service.
River Dogz strives to accommodate guests by offering rescheduling options or future credit when possible. These courtesies are at the discretion of management and may incur additional fees.
