What safety measures are in place?
All guides are certified in Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and AED. A first aid kit and cell phone are carried on every tour, and there is cell service on most trails. Local emergency response teams are typically available within 2–3 miles of the trailheads.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Weather, trail conditions, and group safety are always evaluated to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Tour times, days, or itineraries may be adjusted as needed. In the event of a weather-related cancellation, every effort will be made to rebook the tour. Generally, mornings offer the most stable weather, especially in late spring and early summer.
Can we explore old mine sites or cabins?
For both safety and preservation, participants are asked to observe mine sites and historic structures from a distance. Old buildings, tunnels, and debris can be unstable and unsafe. Guests are encouraged to leave artifacts where they are and take only photographs.
Are we allowed to hike off-trail?
Tours remain on designated trails with permitted access, as many mine claims are privately owned. The surrounding terrain may also contain open shafts, vents, and tunnels that pose safety hazards.
Is there cell service on the trails?
Most routes have cell service, and guides carry an iPhone, first aid kit, and emergency contact information on every tour. Guests are welcome to use phones for photography but are encouraged to limit calls to fully enjoy the natural setting.
Will there be restrooms available?
Tours begin at the Georgetown Gateway Visitor Center, where restrooms are available. Some trailheads have porta-potties, and guides carry WAG bags for use on the trail. If a restroom break is needed mid-tour, the guide will provide instruction on Leave No Trace bathroom practices.
Can dogs join the tour?
For the safety of wildlife, guests, and other trail users, pets are not permitted on tours.
