Description

Guided Chasm Lake Hike - Full-Day Private Hike with Hotel Pickup & Picnic Lunch

Longs Peak dominates the skyline of Rocky Mountain National Park, and this hike takes you partway up its iconic trail to one of its most breathtaking rewards: Chasm Lake, tucked into an alpine basin 2,500 feet below the summit.

The route winds through subalpine forest, past rushing creeks, and out into open alpine terrain with sweeping mountain views, culminating at the lake's dramatic, cliff-ringed shore. It's one of the most rewarding hikes in the park — a true taste of the high alpine without an overnight commitment.

This is also the most demanding hike we offer. The trail climbs steadily for miles, gaining significant elevation as it pushes above treeline and into thinner mountain air, so the payoff at the lake comes with real effort along the way. It's a full day on your feet over rocky, uneven terrain, with a noticeably tougher pace and grade than our half-day and full-day park hikes.

This private, full-day adventure is guided at your group's pace, with your own trip leader shaping the day around your interests and energy level from start to finish — including deciding when to push on and when to slow things down as the terrain gets more serious.

FAQs

What are the benefits of a guided hike in the park?

uided hikes take the guesswork out of planning a visit to Rocky Mountain National Park. Your CPR/First Aid-certified guide handles park permits, timed-entry reservations, trail selection, and safety, so you can simply enjoy the scenery. Guides also share local knowledge of the park's wildlife, geology, and history along the way, and the pace and focus can be tailored to your group.

Do I need to make my own Rocky Mountain National Park reservations?

No. Park entrance fees and timed-entry reservations are handled for you as part of the tour package.

I have a Rocky Mountain National Park pass. Should I bring it?

Yes. If you hold an annual, senior, or lifetime park pass, bring it along — your guide will use it when possible to help support the National Park Service.

Will there be snow on the trails?

Snow is possible on higher-elevation trails until early June. If you're hiking in winter or spring, plan to bring traction devices if you have them, along with a bag to carry out muddy or snowy boots afterward.

Do hikes still run in the rain?

Yes — hikes run rain or shine, and your guide will choose the best trail for the day's conditions. In rare cases of dangerous weather, a hike may be canceled for safety, and you'll be notified and offered the option to reschedule.

How long is the Chasm Lake hike, and how far do we go?

This is an 8.4-mile (13.5 km) round-trip hike, with a total outing of about 7 to 8 hours including round-trip drive time.

Do I need previous hiking experience for this hike?

Yes. This route is moderately strenuous and is best suited for experienced hikers comfortable with sustained mileage and elevation gain at altitude.

What fitness level is required?

You should be physically fit enough to hike for several hours over uneven, high-altitude terrain. Your trip leader may adjust or shorten the hike, or turn the group around, if conditions or group ability make continuing unsafe.

Is this a private, exclusive experience?

Yes. This hike is offered as a private, customized itinerary for your group, guided at your own pace.

Is lunch included?

Yes — a picnic lunch is included. Let your guide know about any dietary needs when you book.

Is transportation included?

Yes. Guests staying in Estes Park lodging are picked up directly from their accommodation; others meet at the Estes Park Mountain Shop.
