Description
Your First Dive, with an Instructor Focused Entirely on You!
Take your first breath underwater with an instructor dedicated entirely to you and your party. This private beginner scuba experience gives first-time divers the opportunity to try real scuba diving on a West Maui reef without needing previous experience or a scuba certification. With no outside guests joining your session, everything can move at your comfort level—from learning the equipment and practicing your first skills to heading out onto the reef.
Before entering the ocean, your instructor will introduce you to the scuba equipment, explain important safety procedures, and teach you the basic skills you'll need for your dive. Then you'll enter from a West Maui beach and practice in shallow water until you're comfortable breathing through the regulator and moving underwater. There’s no pressure to keep pace with another group; your instructor can spend extra time wherever you need it.
Once you're ready, the real adventure begins. Follow your instructor onto the reef and experience the incredible sensation of swimming weightlessly beneath the Pacific while searching for Hawaiian green sea turtles (Honu), tropical reef fish, moray eels, octopus, coral formations, and other marine life. Every dive is different, and having your own instructor means more opportunities to ask questions and discover what's hiding around the reef.
The private format is especially helpful for nervous first-time divers, families, couples, and anyone who prefers additional individual attention. It gives you a relaxed, personalized introduction to scuba while still delivering the experience you're really here for: putting on a tank, getting underwater, and discovering Maui from an entirely new perspective.
Important: This is an introductory scuba experience, not a scuba certification course. You will dive under the direct supervision of an instructor, and completing the experience does not qualify you to scuba dive independently afterward.

- All guests must complete the PADI/DAN Diver Medical Questionnaire before participating in the dive. Depending on your answers, the form may require you to receive medical clearance and a signature from a physician before diving. We strongly recommend completing the questionnaire as soon as possible after booking so you have plenty of time to obtain medical clearance if needed. If the questionnaire requires physician approval, you will not be permitted to dive without the completed medical clearance. Because this is a required safety measure, refunds cannot be provided if you are unable to participate because the questionnaire was not completed or required medical clearance was not obtained in time.
- Please let the instructor know if you are uncomfortable swimming in the ocean or are a novice swimmer.
- This is a shore-entry dive with no boat component.

FAQs
What makes this different from the group Discover Scuba experience?
This session is private and exclusive to your booked group — your instructor isn't splitting attention with other participants, and pacing is built around you.
Do I need any prior experience?
No. This experience is designed for first-timers who want to try breathing underwater without committing to a full certification course.
Do you have DIN tanks?
Yes, we need 2 days advance notice.
Can I get nitrox? What blend Nitrox do you have? What percentage is the Nitrox?
Yes, we need 1 day advance notice. Nitrox blend is 32%
Would you recommend steel tanks (“100’s”) since I tend to go through my air fast?
It depends on your dimensions (height and weight) if it will be beneficial for you. If you are over 210 lbs we recommend steel tanks. Also known as “100’s”
Can I go to Hana the day after I dive?
Yes, there is no elevation gain to worry about.
Can I drive up to Haleakala (volcano)?
No, wait 18 – 24 hours before ascending to altitude.
Any activity that brings you above 1000 ft (305 m) can trigger the Bends/Decompression Sickness. Please check your hike elevation to ensure that at no time you will be going up in elevation. If the hike does go to elevation, you must treat it like a preflight interval as listed above in the flying FAQ.
Can I fly after diving?
Flying directly after scuba diving is incredibly dangerous and could result in a life-threatening illness called the Bends/Decompression Sickness. The Divers Alert Network (DAN) guidelines for flying after diving include:
- A single no-decompression dive, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000 ft (305 m) interval of 18 hours suggested.
- Multiple dives per day or multiple days of diving, a minimum preflight surface or any driving to above 1000ft (305m) interval of 24 hours is suggested.
- Dives requiring decompression stops are recommended to have longer than 18 hours.
Please discuss with your dive guide ahead of time what is suggested!
I have my own regulator can I just rent the BCD?
Yes; when you make your reservation you can select which add-ons are right for you: you can either rent a Full Set of dive gear or by the piece.
As of 2021 we are providing any gear rental you need for no extra charge.
Do I need my scuba certification card?
Yes, you need to show your scuba certification card at check in in order to participate in our Maui diving excursion. Proof of certification is accepted, for example, if the office has verified you or you have a Dive Check through PADI.
Can I bring my own tanks? Is there a discount if I do?
Yes, you can bring your own tanks. There is no discount as tanks do not cost extra, they are included.
Can I use all of my own equipment?
Yes, and you do need a computer on for boat dives.

If the cancellation notification is received more than 72 hours from the start of the tour or class there will be a 20% fee charged.

Cancellations only accepted during business hours: Monday to Saturday 7 AM to 4:30 PM, Sunday 7:30 AM to 3 PM (HST). Messages left on voicemail do not constitute an accepted cancellation.
